Water in the "Basement"

Trailer has corrugated plastic (coroplast?) covering the bottom space between the frame rails.

After spending the previous day driving in the rain, I tilted the trailer up on one side to adjust the brakes and a few cups of water poured out. So the basement is not sealed and some water can get in while driving in the rain. And there are depressions in the plastic where it accumulates and cannot drain out.

Is this a potential problem? The wood floor framing is wrapped in some sort of plastic cloth but I imagine the basement could get quite humid.
  • Wrap tape around the drill bit so it will only penetrate approx 1/4".
  • Yes, I'll try drilling a couple of small low point holes. Any water that gets in should drip right out again, and hopefully I won't hit a tank.

And try caulking around the wheel wells and front edge especially. There's little if any gap that I can see.

    Thanks folks.
  • Very few trailers are completely sealed on the belly pan but if your wheel wells are intact and well calked it should stop water from getting in. I'd concentrate on sealing that area first.
  • I have drilled a series of 1/8 inch holes in all low areas that could retain water. Also sealed every opening I could with foam in the can. No visible dripping yet and no mice.
