Well Water Odors

I use the 48 Gallon Fresh Water Tank at my campgrounds (No City Hook-ups)...The odor is pretty bad from campground water supply...

Other than the filters and Clorox treatments, does anyone use anything else to freshen up the well water odors? (Maybe Dawn Dish Liquid?)

My fresh tank is only used for toilet, showering and dishes...Never drink it since we've always got fresh water from home for coffee and drinking...
  • There are some fresh water tablets out there to rid the water of order and taste. Camco makes one, pure taste or something to that effect... I used to use a lemon flavored one in an older trailer. I don't remember the name of it.
  • The Camco product is actually baking soda (I looked up the MSDS sheet) whether it will reduce the sulfur smell I would doubt. Chlorine bleach can effectively remove medium to high levels (over 6 mg/l) of hydrogen sulfide. The chlorine in the bleach chemically reacts with (oxi- dizes) the hydrogen sulfide eliminating the "rotten egg" odor. Chlorine bleach also reacts with iron or manganese, and disinfects water supplies. You can then filter the chlorine out with a carbon filter.

You gonna shower with dish soap in the water?? Dawn is so concentrated you's have nothing but suds coming out of all the faucets.

    The answer IS a filter.

The simple RV blue in-line filter does the job for me. Takes the iron out so the toilet, tank, and lines don't stain and eliminates the smell for around 15 bucks! I would never fill my fresh tank from a well without a filter on the hose.

Hook it up to the end of your hose when you fill the fresh tank.

  • Got the Camco filter...Gonna give it a wing and see what happens...Thanks...
