Most of the increase in complaints can likely be traced back to ease of complaining. In the 1990's very few people were active on forums and social media. By the 2000's it became much more common. By 2010's very few were not active.
I really haven't seen much difference. Also, keep in mind people talking about the first vs last trailer often have different use patterns. A 30yr old couple likely has a couple weeks plus a few weekends use per year. A 65yr old couple are more likely to have a few months per year of use. Guess what, that heavy use wears things out faster.
