Wet Bath

Looking at new campers, what a daunting task. The dry baths are nice but take up soo much room. We really like the Arctic Fox 996 , and the DW is OK with the wet bath except it is SO WHITE and antiseptic. Any ideas on how to make it look less hospital and more bathroom.

I was at The Home Depot and found these vinyl tiles that would be awesome to decorate or spruce up you steril white walls in the wet bath. I read, I believe on this forum, that someone used them as a back splash in their galley. They are peel and stick and I should have read more, but I believe water proof as well. I took two pics of the display they had.....

The wet bath in the AF811 has been our first experience. We would prefer a dry bath because we often camp in wet weather and would like a place to leave wet gear to dry instead of always having to move it to access the bathroom. However with our shorter floor plan, it would take too much space. When I tow the trailer, I have a clothes line strung inside but it takes a while for things to dry if you don't pump heat or blow air through it. I also agree that having to store towels and other items outside of the bath takes away from usable storage. If these items had a place within the bath, it would free up some room in our cabinets.

The Host Aspen or Chinook have a dry bath for a short bed truck, but the weight would prevent me from towing anything large with my current truck.

Did you mean dry bath of the 992?

We were looking at the 990 or the 992 last year. The dry bath looked nice but took up a lot of room. The wife also thought when the person sleeping behind the dry bath got out of bed they would have to crawl over and disturb the other person. So we went with the 990.

Thanks 425 ,I fixed it.

We have a 2008 990 AF and love it. This our first truck camper and we were real apprehensive about the wet bath, but it is great. I like the white as said before it helps with the brightness. We spent 5 months in the TC this past summer workcamping and a little travel. We full time and have a 40 foot 5th wheel, the TC is really different but it is a lot easier to get around than a 22 foot pick up and a 40 foot 5th wheel. Planning a cross country trip this summer with a lot of boondocking. Good luck on your decision AF is a good unit.

I put a dinning-room table place mat on the floor of the shower. It fit perfect in the recessed area, covering the shower drain, too. It's water proof, easy to clean, dries quickly, has a scratch resistant bottom, adds a little color and is easy to stand on with bare feet. I didn't want little squares/holes for the dirt to get past (now the dirt gathers at the edge of the mat, I guess).
I looked for one of those rubber bath tub mats that have the little suction cups on the bottom, but I haven't found one, yet. I figured one of those wouldn't slip and would retain what little dirt we leave in the bathroom from the bottom of our socks/bare feet. Typically, shoes don't go in the bathroom, but the camper is still brand new. That attitude may change in 5 or 6 years. Perhaps sooner, if I get to mountain bike as much as I should.

You don't notice the "big square" holes. You will notice the little round "nibs" that make it non slide.

Rickeoni, We are very happy with our AF996 and the wet bath works out well for us. More kitchen counter space is well worth the trade off for the wet bath and a gray tub mat on the floor gives it some contrast. It also protects the gel coat from scratches when gravel it brought in with shoes. PM me with any questions particular to the 996, 50 nights camped and counting, it's a great rig!

We don't spend that much time in the wet bath, but are glad it is white to reflect light.

DW added colored towels, soap holder to add some color.

We have a wet bath in our 1150 and are very glad of the choice. Camper feels much more open and we would rather have the storage space in the kitchen than the bathroom. Bathroom feels "bigger", one large compartment instead of two small ones, and we find showering is easier once we tried it. I had never sat down for part of a shower before and it is kind of nice. That said if we were to be big skiers and have lots of wet ski gear I can see the appeal of having a dry bath to put the gear in.

A couple of things we did: We added lots of 3M hooks and shelfs to the walls to hang things (get the bathroom models made for high humidity. Frankly we added the brass ones all over the the rest of the camper too). This will not really help with the color though. Second, add Dri-Dek panels cut to fit the floor. This means you don't have to dry the floor or worry about slipping. You can get the Dri-Dek in many colors. You can find it at a Marine supply house or here:

Dri-Dek

We used white but here is what it looks like:

The other thing you could do would be to replace the shower curtain with a more colorful one.

Great idea! Love the look and non-slipping surface.
