What do you use for steps while towing?

I would like to get a set of scissor steps but they would not work while towing which is most of the time.

I currently use a 24" step ladder that I can place beside the tongue. But my threshold is 42" off the ground so that last step is a doozy!!!

I was thinking of a 48" step ladder and saw 6" off the legs?

Thanks............DJ

Thanks everyone for taking time to respond and offer advice. After considering all this I have decided on the 4 step Little Giant. I need more versatility in step placement so I think this is the best solution.

Thanks again.......DJ

In fact, I have the same plastic steps that are shown in cleary's photo! Only difference is cleary's steps are white, mine are black.

I'm thinking about getting the Little Giant, but trying to decide between the 3- or 4-step model. Good reviews on Amazon.com for all sizes of the Little Giant Safety Stepladder. Searched the reviews with the word "camper" and found a half dozen truck campers posted good reviews. Almost all truck campers bought the 3-step version, one person bought the 4-step. Need to break out the tape measure at home to see if the 27" or 36" top step will work best. Also need to measure for folded storage. I'm thinking taller may be better as I like to use the jacks to level sometimes which makes that bumper to first step distance to my current Campers World plastic folding 2-step stairs a dangerous exit and entrance. By the way, the plastic stairs are cracked and held together redneck style with duct tape, so I don't feel too bad about upgrading.

I find I use my current plastic step stairs for setting up the awnings and flagpole, sitting on to adjust shoes or waiting for the dog to poo, and snapping the cover on my boat. Think the stepladder is a better fit for me instead of scissor steps. Otherwise I'd have to carry the weight of both. Actually, the foldaway safety bar might be nice for setting up the awnings when I've had a few beers in my system...LOL! :B

I have seen the Little Giant. How do you get around the safety bar?

It folds forward and down out of the way.

Sorry I don't have a picture but we have a step that bolts onto the tongue of our boat trailer that allows us to step up into the camper. We use the camper ladder to hold onto for balance. May not be the fanciest step but it works well for us.

This is a temporary step i installed to see how the idea would work. As soon as the rain stops i'm going to make this step bigger and taller. I think it work fine once i modify the size.

No problem. Just kick the boat trailer out of the way & lower the steps.
