What to look for when inspecting a used TT for purchase

#1 water marks. see ANY RUN. no matter what the seller says. you can,t see all the damage without taking it apart. the wood rots and cost big bucks to repair. #2 tires tires are date stamped if there over 5years its time to replace nice chunk of money.and if there made in china? there a bomb waiting to go off. now find a rv inspector in your area, fine a rv you like have him inspect it. cost couple hundred BUT you,ll get a report better than the factory could give you. welcome to rving ,it all cost money to play.

I would check out rvtrader to get an idea of prices for that model. A drive to Maryland will get you a 2017 for that price.
As for what to look for start with the roof. Take a ladder along and get a good look at the caulking up top. It will probably have some cracking but check along the front and back edges for areas pulled back from the edge. If you see anything suspicious check the walls inside and out for softness. Other than that check the tires for uneven wear. It could be a sign of bad axle alignment or a bent axle. Look at the rims for damage from hitting curbs.
Maybe take a white cup along. Drain some water out of the tank drain into that cup. If it's not clean you probably don't want to be using it to brush your teeth..

American tires also have problems but that’s ignored by the forum’s resident Chinese detractors. I’d check the dates and the load range. “Ds” are preferable to “Cs.” Ask to see maintainance records on brakes and bearings. Five year old TT should have evidence of roof preventive maintenance....tape, caulk, liquid rubber etc. No evidence equals no maintenance.

Dont be concerned about taking your time. Open the cabinets, all of them, and look for water leaks inside them. Check every corner. Make sure every appliance included in the sale works! As said before, definitely, positively check the roof! Don't accept "it had a leak but it's fixed now!" Check to make sure its not delaminating anywhere along the outside. Once that starts separating, it's big time trouble. Also agree that the $ spent having a pro check it out (not a friend of the seller!) is worth more than you will pay for the rig! He will check things no one else would even think to look for, and you could well get your cost back either by paying less because of what he found or getting fixed or replaced what he says isn't working! That's been our experience anyway.

Another thought - you asked about depreciation of the RV - Yes, just like a boat! Sorry, but that's pretty much always been true! And remember, the 2015 didn't cost $20,000 when it was new!
