Hi Everyone,We are in the processing of looking for another truck to tow our 35' Travel trailer. Our truck (2007 Ford F250 Diesel)is on it's last leg at 145,000 miles and it hasn't been such a great truck maintenance wise.We are now looking at the Chevy, Dodge and GMC. We have seen more Rams towing compared to the others. What do you tow your Travel Trailers with and should we stick with the diesel? Should we also get the 4X4 and what engine size should we look for. We have had the EGR valve replaced 3 times on this truck and it's time to move on. We decided no more Ford Trucks. Thanks!

Brand seems to really be regional. Go drive all of them in the trim level you want. Then pick the one your DW likes best. None of them will disapoint. But I think you will find GM the most dated, Ford the most expensive.

Ford has made lots of improvements since 2007. I understand your frustration but I have bought a lot of Fords in the last 25 years (started getting A/Z plan then) and have been really happy. You can get a bad one from anyone. I like the Ford and the Chevy. Used to drive Chrysler's at work all the time...still not impressed by them, but they have some nice looking vehicles.

I have always been a "Ford guy" and probably went thru everything you have and more, as I had an '06 F350 with the infamous 6.0 Powerstroke. That truck could do no wrong in my eyes, and one year spent up to $12,000 in repairs. I finally opened my eyes and bought a new Ram 3500 with a Cummins diesel and never looked back. As previously mentioned, go drive them all and see which you like best. You probably can't go wrong with any of the big three. For me, like yourself, Ford left a bad taste in my mouth for the time being. Honestly, I still like the look of the Ford over the others, but I prefer the reliability so far of the Ram with the Cummins. Good luck with whichever you choose.

Hi Poohper, First of all, your name and signature just kills me! I'm on my third Dodge/Ram truck, the first was a 2001 1500, the second a 2008 2500 CTD, and now this 2017 3500 CTD. I've been very happy with each one, and didn't look at the other two main brands when I picked up this one. I got it about six weeks ago, and saved some money by buying last year's model with only a few miles on it. It depends on where you tow, but 35 feet is probably a heavy trailer, so I'd give strong consideration to diesel. Personally, I prefer to tow with a diesel. thanks! Kevin

4th gen HD has been 9 years now and a couple more for the 1500s
Long in the tooth from an asthetics standpoint? Maybe, but some designs stand the test of time longer than others. The original Super duty went for what? Like 18 years before a ground up new design?

Yes, I agree. The 4th generation has been around for the last 5 years (and will continue for the next 2) and has been highly reliable. I'm active on several RAM truck forums that have more than a few members well over 200K miles on their gasser from this gen with just normal maintenance. One member has 228k miles on his 16 2500 gasser as he tows flat beds across the country on a daily basis. He reports not a single failure except for a couple of FCA recalls. This platform is wonderful and I would buy it again in a heartbeat

Either Ford or GM would serve you well. But if a couple thousand separates you from settling or getting what you want, I'd bite the bullet and get what you want. Odds are you'll be happier in the long run.

As far as the cost of the Ford goes I think his way of thinking is a little off as well. I paid 3k more for a fully loaded Platinum than what a Laramie Limited would have cost me. In my opinion that put the two trucks at a pretty even level as far as value is concerned.
