So were the words I kept hearing in my head on this trip, sung by Cat Stevens in Moon Shadow, Moon Shadow. This was actually a week after the Penumbra Umbra, (thanks for the title Silversand!) and Lynn and I were looking for any remnants of the eclipse in the mountains of Idaho, at the highest point you can get to in a 4wheel drive vehicle. Yes, it is the highest dirt road in the whole state. Not that I care to brag.I'm sorry, until I figure out another place to store pictures this one is again...on my website. As for tires and wheels, Alcoa forged wheels since I cracked 4 of my previous cast aluminium while 4 wheeling. The tires are BFG All Terrains, the oldest tread on the planet. In ten years I'm on my sixth or seventh full set. These have lasted 3 years now but not as much 4wheeling and not that many miles, I'd have to check. First two sets made it around 18,000 miles each, something about rock crawling with a camper leaves me flat tired...and broke.

Thanks. Are those the 16x7 Alcoa's? Doesn't quite look the same as the wheel on Alcoa's site. I like they way they stay tucked in. Too many aftermarket wheels have too little backspace, not to mention too little load capacity. Are you still happy with your 3" lift? I wouldn't mind putting some larger tires under my rig but I already get some rubbing with 265/75R16's.

Hey Dave, you never disappoint, sir. Enjoyable as always. Such beautiful fantastic country (ignoring the smoke and what was making it)! Hope Idaho is being good to you and Lynn. It surely isn't disappointing the camera lens. Your comment on San Berdoo really brought me back. A good friend and I were out there in early to mid sixties, and the poor fella spent about a week in bed. Being from the good old state of ME, his lungs just couldn't stand it. Hadn't thought about that trip in many a moon. Thanks again for bringing us along on another Whazoo adventure. Love it!!

Hey Dan, I forget but think they're 17x8. The rubber is 285/70/17. And yes, it was important to me to have a short back space for off road.Hi Ya Clarryhill!! It's great to see you again and yes indeed Idaho is special. Still hot here in Boise but not Phoenix hot. Next time we won't stop till we hit the Artic Circle where I hear it's against the law to sweat. Take care ol friend...

Howdy guys, hey it's so great to see/hear from you all and I'm appreciative of your replies. Yes indeed that was Railroad Ridge and the Livingston Mine and Boarding House. You guys have me figured out now don't you lol. Also yes our forests are disappearing at a fast clip due to the fires. It seems the west is burning alive. That's why getting out now is more important than ever.

Great TR Dave. Idaho is beautiful but no comparison to AZ/UT for really good extreme truck camper stuff. Pretty soon there won't be one tree left in Idaho from all the fires while the USFS sits on their ass!!!!

Another wonderful entertaining photo journey, I Google Earth some of those places posted in your trip report, indeed a lot of spur roads off the main path.
