Probably not the best course of action with an active membership of about two dozen.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

It has become a very hot issue in Canada as well. It is a case of wait and see how it all pans out.Does not look good at this stage, but who knows what caused the issues as regards the closing may go away

For what it is worth, if any deletions of the whole thread, or portions is me. Sometimes another comes and does things, if I know I am not around for a bit, potentially out of cell range or not.
From what I have noticed tho, is the sub is more inclined to delete etc than I am.
Generally speaking, there is not a lot that shakes me per say. As everyone has an opinion on something, be it good or bad depending upon ones view!
For that matter, when I do close, it has gotten to a name calling situation or equal. Some I let go too long, others I get probably a bit too quick! As most of us are human, we do make mistakes both ways.
Usually it is best if one can have a reasonble discussion, discourse on a topic....at times, it will not happen. So things go away, get locked.......
It also depends upon where I am when I might see something, if I delete a post, vs lock, vs the whole thing. Most of the time I see this on a phone. Doing mod duties on a phone is harder than my laptop.
Some mods would probably have locked the Tesla thread. But even tho it does have some political issues. it has not been completely out of what is ok vs no ok.
At the end of the day tho, no matter who does or does not moderate a forum of any sort.....no one will be completely happy about how it goes!

There are times when discussions about politics should allowed. Like when Marcus Lemonis told the world that if we supported a certain US president that he didn't want them in his Camping World stores. We replied to his statement and the mods wasted no time shutting down those threads. One-sided, I'd say, on the politics theme.

Any way we could get campers who leave their scare lights on all night to turn political so they'd get "deleted" from the campgorund? Can we blame leaving scare lights on all night on politics? Somehow, there MUST be a way!

How about we suspend people that turn things political. closing an entire thread is crazy.

X2.
Some folks make politics their life and can't separate the two.

This arbitrary and really summary deletion of entire threads is happening a lot, and yes even to completely non political threads. It seems it is the default reaction to almost any problem instead of the "Last Resort" which I think many would agree would be the right approach.

I often post to A well known travel forum, Rick Steves Europe, which can get VERY lively and the moderators there will warn individual posters to tone it down which works very well and brings the discussion back to it's senses. Or they will post a short warning. It works. Closing a thread is almost never done and only with an explanation by the moderators. They seem to respect their members and customers and take it for granted there are intelligent beings on the other side of the portal. Which then works both ways.

It is interesting to note that the RS forum has many many more members than this one and it's subjects are more prone to political nuances and outright discussion than the RV'ing world. Yet it is very well managed and moderated with thoughtfulness and intelligence.

It is too bad that so often in a place designed to foster communication that very communication is too often shut down or hobbled unnecessarily. It would be far better to just remove the offenders from the discussion or the site if they persist.

I don't come here for political discussion...but neither do I come here for having entire threads removed because of one or two individuals taking it off the rails.

Nothing is learned, nothing is gained, no interest is served by removing an entire thread because of a few responses...IMHO

There is a better way.

I suspect that key words like Obama and/or Trump trigger the deletion response.

I'd be willing to moderate the these forums. It does take take thick skin and a commitment of time that may burn some people out. From what I know, there are fewer tools available to the moderators than some other forum software being used. I currently deal with two different forum software vendors and there is variation in what can be manipulated.

How about we suspend people that turn things political. closing an entire thread is crazy. They signed up for a job knowing it was going to consume their time then take the easy way out. I`m seeing this more and more.

I appreciate the mods just deleting it. If they just filtered out the idiocy the offenders would just keep posting.
