- LessmoreExplorer IIWe had till July 1997 a 1976 Chevy Impala with the 350 V8 and THM 350 transmission. It was bought new in December '76...ended up a one family (ours) car all it's life till it rusted out in '97.
Engine work...none except one can of car cleaner, couple of tune ups. When it finished it's life with us the engine went into a Firebird and the tranny went into a Chevy pickup. The HEI ignition and rad went into a souped up Nova with a built 450 hp 406 SBC.
We towed with it till August 1996. In the summer of 1995 we towed our large Coleman folding trailer, throughout the prairie provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta...then through the Canadian Rockies through British Columbia to and around Vancouver Island.
Then back to Manitoba through Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and up to Manitoba.
In Montana it was 109 to 110 F....lot's of cars broken down by the side of the road (boiled over) , but the old Impala never whimpered.
What did I learn ? Two things...get your car Ziebarted (rust proofed) if you plan to drive it many years and it's hard to beat a small block Chevy V8. - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerStill using my 2000 suburban with 200,000 miles. Drives and looks like new !
- carringbExplorer362,000 on my 2000 V10. Powertrain has been untouched other than scheduled service, the radiator, and a few starter relays.
- rfryerExplorerA 2001 F150 Lariat 4x4 and I'm sure any number of people will beat that. If I still had my PU it would be tougher, my usual TV was a 1973 Bronco.

- Mike_LeClairExplorerDarn It! Now I wish that we had kept our 1979 Bronco tow beast with my hand built engine and trans. 400ci square block with many goodies.
Still towing now with our 1999 RAM 2500. On our way to Big River RV Park in Cali.
Cheers!
Mike
