Wife drive's the Freightliner

My wife tells me she wants to get some left seat time just in case something happen's to me on the road, so we start with just the tractor and make 3 trips around the block for her to get used to the turning and breaking of our Freightliner FL-60 Sport Chassis, now for her feet to even touch the floor she has to let all the air out of the seat air bags, after 3 trip's around the block she says let's go to the mini mart @ a mile down the main road, at this point I don't know who's stressing more her or me, lol. Well we made it back home all right no bump's or scrape's. We tow a small car behind us when we travel through state's that allow us to and that put's us at about 80 feet long, without the car we are at 58 feet, tractor + fifth-wheel toy hauler = 58 feet, she's no where ready for that, but this is the start

    My wife and I drove team, with a long nose Peterbilt 379, pulling a 53' Great Dane reefer. Did a fine job.

    My wife had never driven anything larger than a Ranger pu until I got my F250 CC SB 4WD. She drove it quite a bit in the winters, while I was Deployed in the Service. Then she wanted her own 4x4 for the winter- she wound up with an Hummer H2 (got a great deal and she drives it like a sports car;)) When my Dad passed on he left his 25' 5er to my little Sis. She used it for a temp home until they built the main part then asked me if I wanted it----Hell Yeah! Her and her hubby hauled it from AK to MT where we met them. She went over the inside with my sis and I went over the outside with my BIL.
    We went all over SD and played Tourist. She started driving on the straits then in town when we pulled off to eat or refuel. She wound up driving about half.
    We can't wait for the new Ram to get here!

    I tried the same logic and I got " I'm cute and I would come with a truck and trailer. Some guy would be happy to have me." Apparently I'm not the irreplaceable stud I thought I was.

    DW gets extremely motion sick if she does not drive. When we got our first TT, she said she didn't think she could drive it. I told her there was no reason she couldn't. Left from Syracuse to go to Myrtle Beach that first year and got 100 miles from home. She got so sick she had to drive. She's been driving ever since (6 years). Only problem is she will not learn to back it up. As someone posted earlier, at least I think my job is somewhat safe:W.

    X3 on that, Mine won't even attempt to drive the MH. I am resigned to the fact that it will be me doing the driving.


    x4 But then again I would be more nervous than her I'm sure.

    If she won't drive it, we won't own it! That hour or two after lunch gives me time for my afternoon nap during drowsy time. She does all the backing for launching and loading the boat - I never get my feet wet.

    It's a partnership all the way.

    I do love driving our truck, hate driving our car. I have never drove it with our 5th wheel yet. I do know how to hook it up & unhook. In case of emergency, then I will learn fast.

    We met a couple in Maine that the wife often drives their semi with the 45 foot 5th wheel attached.

    If the hubby is driving when they get near their destination, they switch drivers so that the wife can drive into the campground and position the unit in the site.

    Why? They do it solely so they can watch peoples faces as she does so!!!

    When we picked up our 3500 drw hubby " christened" me by making me drive the 200 miles plus to get home, all alone. I fell in love within 15 minutes. Still have phoboas about her big hips but I know if I am going fairly straight, and the mirrors dont hit, im safe. Hate the wall of death!

    Do wish I had an FL 60 to test. :-)

    Been practicing with the 5r and that is still tough. The hand on the bottom of the wheel is wierd, but it works. Drove our old 39 ft DP witnout a problem. Will have to keep practicing with the fifth wheel. Wont have anywhere to fly to when we leave next year to full time. Still have to learn complete set up and break down of the coach. I think its important all us ladies should learn. Never know what can happen and best to be prepared!
