How simple life must be for those who can tell the other fellow what to do in one or two easy sentences. How do you know his position? Do you know his tax situation? Will he have to take money out of savings or a retirement plan to pay cash? What will be the tax consequences? Any early withdrawal penalties? Is he looking at a leftover model that has huge incentives and rebates? What will be the fuel savings or losses if he upgrades? What repairs are imminent on his trade-in? Will he soon lose eligibility for employee discounts? Does his employer reimburse all or part of his vehicle expenses? Does he get a tax break for business use? What are his employment opportunities? Did he recently receive an inheritence or one time bonus, will he next year? Is the spouse starting a career and need a second reliable vehicle? Many many more questions, far too many for anyone to throw out a blanket, "You are doing it all wrong because you don't do it like me" comments. Even as tempting as that can be.
