I tow a 29' TT with a 2013 Grand Cherokee. The TT is 4735 dry with a GVWR of 6500 lbs. We have a 5.7L Hemi, but I believe the V6 would do OK as well. The TT tows just fine with the GC. I use a WD hitch with Sway Control and a Prodigy Brake Controller. I have towed up to 70 mph with no problem. Passing semis on a two lane does not even phase it. Not a bit of sway. My GC is rated for a little over 7000 lbs. There is only 2 of us in the car. Based upon my experience so far, I believe I could safely tow much more than the vehicle is rated for. The main thing is that I drive like I am towing a 7000 lb vehicle. I have seen many RVer's towing at 70-80 with a TT or fifth wheel. I rarely exceed 65 mph. I have had to stop quickly, not necessarily a panic stop, with no drama. I don't think you will have any problem with the proper hitch and sway control.
