Wow! How prices vary

I was just doing a bit of a look around at TT of various ages. One thing I noticed was how prices vary so much all over the US and Canada. What shocked me was that I saw our trailer, 6 years older, selling for more than we paid new. How can that be? It wasn't just the one trailer we saw less than our new one.

When I bought my Bullet in June, the sticker price was around $30K, and I bought it for $22K. And that was after they added a power tongue jack to the cost.

I just got that same unit for 18200 four weeks ago.

We got ours for $11900. We saw prices from as low as $8K with what they said was minimal hail damage to as high as $15K.Pays to search.

^^^^ very true ^^^^

We sold our 2006 Salem trailer for 8500 (we owed 6500 and booked for 9). It sat for 6 months, during this time we saw same year salems that were very close to what we had listed for 12-14K. We started at 10K...Ours sold for 8500, those other trailers are still for sale and they are around 10k now...this was 3 months ago. Prices are in the eye of the beer holder....

went to trade it in for a trailer we were going to by on a lot and they would only give us 3500 to 4000 for it. Our trailer was mint, no dents, dings...and hardly any wear and tear, we kept it in excelent shape.

there will be some people say that a salem is not worth what we were asking and 3500 is a good price for it...those people can keep their comments to themselves, if they do respond, its shows something about their character.

Lots of people are asking high prices for used RVs because they paid way too much for them when new. Looking at a monthly payment instead of the overall price can leave you upside down for years..

Travel Trailer construction and durability vary as widely as prices for those particular units. As with anything not all TT's are created equal. There are entry level way up to solid deluxe models.

Yes it is the money in the hand that counts. I agree that a well looked after unit will secure more in the end.

Asking prices and what they really sold far are two different things.
Supply and demand enter in to it; seasonality, etc.

Dealer list prices are generally bogus. My 10 year old TT is now listed on a dealers site for $17,000. I paid $15,000 in 2003. It's worth around 8K-9K at most. Same thing with new RV's where dealers MSRP is 20-40% over typical selling prices.

I've noticed that to and my dealer may have explained it.
"with realestate its location, location, with RV's its condition, condition."
He said he has seen 1 yr old RV's he wouldn't trade for because the owners just trashed them.
I saw an 84 model a while back that looked near new,it had always been kept inside and properly repaired when needed.

If your trailer is like my Keystone Cougar, it probably took six years to fix all the manufacturing defects.
