Truck camper match

Looking for advice. I have been offered an 06 Lance 1161 on a 06 dodge 3500 dually 4sp auto, 5.9 turbo cumming s Diesel, crew cab long bed for a very nice price. They appear to have been well cared for. Is this enough truck for the camper?

2 ACCEPTED SOLUTIONS

I am starting to come up to speed. The 04 Lance 1161 tips the scales at 3495lbs. The 06 dodge 3500 4x4, dually, long bed, crew cab, 5.9 Commings diesel with a 4 sp automatic has a load capacity of 4680lbs.

are you sure it is a 1161, and not an 1181 or 1191.  I looked at the 2006 lance camper PDF and there is no 1161 mentioned on it, I beleive 2005 was the last year for the 1161, so either the year or the model is wrong.  but the dualy should be rated for about 5300lbs or a bit more, the 1181 is 4000lbs so it should be a good match up, even if it is a dodge 🤣

Your right. paperwork says 2004.

PS, you’ll be well over the trucks milquetoast de-rated gvw, so like the other guy asked about, on paper you’ll be 1000lbs or so over.
if that bothers you then I suggest a camper trailer, not a bigger truck.

You'll be up to speed when you no longer butcher CUMMINS. 🤣

Extra credit for butchering it in two unique ways, though. Just be aware that you will not be allowed to own a CUMMINS Dodge truck until you learn to spell and pronounce it correctly. The Ram boys will hunt you down and beat you savagely if you continue to include o's and g's.

The truck really has a load capacity closer to 6000lbs or more. Rear axle rating should be around 10,000lbs, and empty weight on the rear axle should not be any more than about 3500lbs.

What you're running up against is the GVWR, which is artificially low for DOT and tax purposes.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

Sorry for the spelling. I went without Oxygen for almost 14 min and lived. Took me almost 4 years to speak again. Had to learn to read, write, and walk again. I will try harder.

Thank you

lol, can’t get much bigger than a dually. It’s enough.
of course there are med duty truck options. But wholly impractical and unnecessary. Although I’d suggest you drive it before buying.
the nature of your question begs the next question about how you didn’t think it would drive “like that.”
Truck probably been paired with that camper since 06 also.

It looks like it has a dry weight of 3270 lbs. So add around another thousand for people and cargo and you're up to 4270 lbs. I know many people routinely exceed the max weight figures on side in campers. Is there any chance you can get the max weights off the sticker inside the drivers door jamb?

Aside from that my gut feeling is yes it will be fine.

Lance 1161 camper has a dry weight of 3495lbs and the truck maxes out at 4680lbs.

The two units look new. Really been cared for. The truck also has air bags under the back.

I have towed all over the country but know next to nothing about these big cab overs.
