I'm connecting the relay that powers it to an upfitter switch. I only plan on using it when the truck is rolling, but plan on having the high idle set up as a just in case. Note on the Renogy 50 amp charger, if you have solar also connected to it, and there is voltage on the solar side, the charger will only charge 25 amps on the DC2DC side.8' high manual vent and fanWe just bought the Torque T314 bumper pull toy hauler listed in our signature. In the kitchen, the vent above the cooking area is about 8 1/2 feet off the ground. During the walk through, I asked the "Director of Fun" (one of the partners), to open the vent and try the fan. He reached for it, and said "Go go Gadget Arm!". It didn't work. So I informed him that I wanted, as part of the deal, a way to make this vent/fan usable. Interesting solution. They have a kit that replaces the vent knob, with one that has a wire loop on it. then there is a rod with a hook on the end and a fat handle. You spin the knob with the hook, and use the fat handle to turn the switch on and off. Pretty smart, and cheap for the dealer to install. I'll probably replace it with a remote controlled vent and fan. But it works for now.Inverter with 50 amp serviceI'm trying to get this sorted out in my head. I'm looking at the Go Power IC-2000 for my new travel trailer. It's a Torque t314 and has 50 amp service. The IC-2000 has a 50 amp type transfer switch with 2 hot legs in and 2 out. I believe it will output both hot legs when passing shore power through. When on inverter power, there will only be 1 hot leg. My confusion comes from the 50 amp service in the trailer. When I'm plugged into a 15 or 30 amp plug with an adapter, I am supplying only 1 hot leg to the trailer. But, I am still able to run all of my 120 volt stuff, 1 device at a time. Is there power management built into the trailer that will allow devices to get power from whichever leg is hot? If so, then the IC-2000 will do what I need. If not, then I don't know what to do. After posting this, I will update my signature. Thanks.Re: Mortons battery chargingFound this BLOG: Link to BLOG Just the ticket.Re: Aftermarket stereo in truck? Compatibility questionsCrutchfield is definitely customer friendly. I would also suggest you see if the YouTube channel Five Star Car Stereo has an install video of your application. They're great for identifying wiring locations, installation and wire color and location for your vehicle. I highly recommend.Re: Mortons battery charging MEXICOWANDERER wrote: 2nd alternator is fine as long as the battery internal temps do not rise more than 15 degrees above ambient. Difficulty with an alternator squashed where it cannot get cooler air is cured with a remote full wave bridge rectifier mounted near the batteries. It'll reduce thermal burden about 35% and on a hairpin alternator about 22% F-350s have a dual alternator option, but from what I understand, they both don't run at the same time. They take turns to avoid overheating, I believe.Re: Mortons battery chargingThe Battle Born device appears to be only for LI batteries. The Renogy mentioned above has an optional temp sensor for the alternator. My F-350 has a 200 amp alternator, so if I do something like this, it will be a modest charging rate. My trailer has an enclosed underbelly, so running wires back to where my electrical stuff is would be hard. The limiting factor is the size of the wires that used to be connected to the batteries on the a-frame. I'll have to pull up the sizing chart and see how much I can safely run through the wires. Thanks for all of the responses. BTW, I've only owned my F-350 for about 3 weeks. I traded in the F-150 Ecoboost for it. One of it's batteries died this morning, so I replaced both today. The battery that died was original. It was paired with one about 6 months old. Grrrrr. The newer battery appears to be OK. So, I guess I have an extra. I was going to check them out eventually. Our plan is in the spring, after the wife retires, to hit the road for a few months. Pushing the F-150 at it's limit for that kind of trip wouldn't have been good for it. So we traded it in.Re: Mortons battery chargingThey actually ran 1 gauge wire to a disconnect plug.Re: Mortons battery chargingThere is some smarts built into the BIM. It cycles on and off to prevent the alternator from getting hot. I just want to know where to find it so I can investigate more.Mortons battery chargingMortons on the Move - Go North - episode 4. They are using the dual alternator setup in their F-350 to charge their RV batteries. About 250 amps worth. I am very interested in this, but on a smaller scale. They connect through an LI-BIM. Anyone have experience with this? I don't have 5 LI batteries like they do, but I have 4 AGMs. Any info would be appreciated.
