All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: RV Furnace Intermittently WorksIf your furnace is the original to Motorhome and has not been changed or replaced, then it is around 24 years old. The likely suspect for the rudimentary description you gave of the symptoms gets my suspicion that the "time delay relay" is wearing out. One symptom is longer and longer periods from cold start, that is, not having run for awile. You turn the furnace on, later the blower comes on for a period, then the igniter fires up to lite the propane for furnace operation. The delay should not be a long one as it is to assure that all and any residual gas fumes are purged from the area of furnace before ignition. So long as the blower is fully operational as opposed to slow speed for lack of sufficient power, or that it cannot get up to speed and the sail switch cannot fully function. But that is a different issue from yours. This delay is all part of the operation of furnace whether cold startup or ongoing cycles. Your retriggering the thermostat is triggering the relay and shocking it to resone correctly. Eventually even that will not work. Time delay switch replacement is a simple one for installation and is not a very expensive part. Please let us know when you track down the culprit.Re: water pump problemsOn some setups, and this problem sounds like one of them, the exit point of the tank that leads to the intake of the water pump, sometimes have a pre filter the shape of a nipple that is part of the exit plumbing. This nipple is a screen material probably stainless steel to eliminate corrosion. Over time the inside of the water tank develops a skin like material that is not harmful, but clings to the wall of the tank. Constant filling and draining can can shake loose some particles of material as the water level drops and float to the discharge point of the tank plugglng the screen on the inside of the fitting. Removing the fitting at that location will reveal I think, the culprit of your issue. It will come out as one piece and is easily cleaned.Re: Van CampingIf you view the outdoors as an extension of the camper van's liviing space, It becomes the perfect portable cabin. Other uses such as sightseeing, travel in romote places etc, make it perfect as well. Depends on your lifestyle. Some have problems with cramped space and others absolutely need Wifi and or TV/satelite connection.Re: 12 VDC lossDead Aux Battery. Start engine. Make sure your on aux power via switch ON. Does porch light come on when switched on. If not then likely isolator has failed. It is supposed to direct the engine alternator juice to the engine battery and when the engine battery no longer needs charging it is supposed to send the alternator power to the Aux Battery. The isolater default position is charging the engine battery so when it fails the engine battery will always get the charge and never provide charging to the Aux Battery. Isolator is usually under the hood and is an add on by the motorhome manufacturer. Not a very expensive part. Total cost will be more in the labor to install.Re: Drawing water from a lakeAs someone who has used non potable water for drinking and cooking purposes while away from safe sources, I have on many occasions filled my 30 gallon on board tank with clear river water of water stated as non potable or unsafe to drink, and treated with a ratio of 2 onces of household bleach. Some times the bleach taste comes through as too much was put in. I have also used granulated Spa chlorine not swimming pool chlorine as the Spa chlorine is more convient. One teaspoon to 15 gallons of water. Spa chlorine has a higher percentage of chlorine and has little in the way of non disolvable matter. In both cases the chlorine is mixed with water before pouring into the holding tank. I would submit to you that this procedure would take care of growth of unwanted substances when applied to longer term storage.Re: Furnace not coming on when it shouldFrom all that has been said and diagnosed, I'd say that the "time delay relay" located in the furnace compartment is the culprit. It is supposed to delay the start-p of the furnace to insure among other things that ALL combustion gases have been purged brfore reigniting. I'ts a $40.00- $50.00 dollar part and is a quick replacement. You could do it yourself as it is usually easily accessiile. Spounds like your somewhat in a fixed location which means that a service call will be needed if you choose not to DIY.Re: Atwood heater problemStupid question. Is there water in the heater? Forgetting to cycle water into the water heater has been my brain dead happenning in the past. I usually drain all systems after use when a non use period follows an outing. An empty heater will reach high temp in a very short time making the sensor think the water is hot enough so as to stop the burner.Re: Water Fill Hose Replacement HelpIf the only portion of he fill hose that cannot be seen is not visible for the one foot distance that you described, then I would, if encountering the same problem, disconnect both ends of the hose, secure a line to one end of the hose VERY SECURELY so that it will not come loose when pulling. Pull the hose thru it's path to the other end. Then, secure the line to the replacement hose and pull it back thru the vacated trail of the old hose.Re: generatorI have an Onan Microlite 2800 AC generator that not only has a circut breaker switch on the generator but also has an automotive type glass tube type fuse with a glass center to view the condition of the core. Broken core = blown fuse. Have had the exact symptons and corrected with a replaced fuse.Re: Thermostat problem Atwood 8525 IV FurnaceThat is a snap on cover. Right?. If so, the fact that the unit operates properly when cover is off indicats that something is binding the mechenism while cover is on. The most likely culprit is the back side of the cover is touching the coil spring that senses temperature. As it ciols and uncoils ever so slightly it closes the heater circuit or opens it depending on demand. Check REAL closely the back side of the cover to determine if that is a possibility. It takes very little abrasion to prevent proper movement. If replacement is desired the process is disconnecting/connecting two or three wires matching the connections with the old thermostat. Digital units I cannot comment on as have no knowledge.
