Have found mixed specs on the tow rating with some sites saying as low 3000 which doesn't make sense, but I don't see why it wouldn't tow 10000 pounds. We used to tow a 10000 lbs TT with a 2001 Suburban 2500 with a 6.0 and 4.10. Edit - Looks like its a Gov and maybe commercial fleet only option to buy. So probably wouldn't be able to get your hands on one of these until they are all used up and sold as surplus.Re: Need to rent a tow vehicle.I am not sure if this is available in your area, but in Calgary you can rent an F-250 regular cab long box with the 6.2L that you are allowed to tow with from U-Haul.Re: What can I tow w/ a Chevy Express 2500 4.8L? So with your 305 hp Tahoe and 4400lb TT (plus gear, passengers, etc), you could only hit 20 mph on the hills? Yeah, that'd be a problem. I don't understand this. Did you have 3.08 gears and 315/75/16 tires?Re: Why hasn't anyone released a HD truck with a Turbo V8?There is a 5.0 ecoboost in the works. http://horsepowerkings.com/the-f-150-raptor-will-receive-the-ecoboost-5-0-twin-turbo-v8-in-2018/ Or you could just go to Nelson Racing Engines and have him install one of these in your truck, then you can pass all the diesels on the hills. http://www.nelsonracingengines.com/pricesheets/lsx/dailydriver/tt/dds_364lsx_tt.pdfRe: What can I tow w/ a Chevy Express 2500 4.8L?I think you would be fine with either of those. You will be well within spec. They build those vans pretty beefy. 3000 lb of payload, 4000+ lb rear axle capacity. 8600 lb tow rating. What it comes down to is expectations of power. Some people don't mind hanging in the slow lane letting the rig work, while others want major power on tap so that they can accelerate like they are driving a normal car. I am not trying to win any races and as long as you aren't, you will be fine with those trailers, just watch the temps and make sure they stay within spec and let the rig work and do its job and it will be fine.Re: Tire pressure - please confirmI always run 45f/45r unloaded and increase to 45f/60r when loaded/towing. I like the stability of the increased stiffness when towing. It makes it worth it to me to go through the hassle of airing up and down.Re: So what are folks average MPG when towingTV TT info in sig, about 12500 combined weight. Last two trips as follows; Calgary 1045m (3428ft) to Banff 1400m (4600Ft) and back. 30*C(86*F) Going about 100kph(62mph) I averaged 27.5L/100km (8.5MPG). Calgary 1045m (3428ft) to Waterton 1290 (4232ft) and back. 24*C(75*F) Going about 110kph(68) I averaged 29.5L/100km (8MPG)Re: 1/2 ton towingWas it a Canyonero? #SimpsonsRe: limits of 1999 GMC suburban 1/2 tonI think you should hook it up and take it for a tow and see how the setup feels. Any reputable trailer dealer will allow you to do this, then you can see for your self. You will never know for sure without trying it. Little things can make a difference. For example, boogie_4wheel had basically the same truck I have now, and it looks like he was pulling the same weight with it. He seems to have been unhappy with the setup. I with the similar truck and similar weighted trailer love my setup. There must be something in the details making the difference even though overall we were running about the same. So yours may tow that weight great like I experience or it may not be all that good. If it isn't that great, could you get by for a year doing it until you can upgrade? I would say yes.Re: 1998 1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton both with 350cidI have a 98 K1500 with the 5.7 and 3.73 gears in a 14 bolt semi floater rear end. I tow a 6900 scaled weight tt with it and I never have an issue. Total combined weight is about 12500. The same engine in the 2500 will feel less powerful because the 4L80E although beefier is less efficient at putting the power to the wheels. The heaviest trailer I have towed with it is 7500 pounds. While I cant speak for heavier, the truck handled these weights like a champ and did not feel down on power considering what it was moving.
