Many years ago we would take the kids and our bikes on the ferry and spend the day on the island, lots of history there and many geological sites. It was then known as the "quiet island" as to the rowdy South Bass Island and Put-In-Bay. There is a State Park campground there, my brother takes his Pop Up on the ferry every year. There are lots of RV Campgrounds in the Port Clinton, but most of them lease out their sites for the entire Summer. East Harbor State Park is a good choice for your base of operations, it's close to everything there. They do have some full hookup sites but you need to book early. we stayed at the Straits a couple of years ago with a great view of the Bridge but we found the campsites very small and stacked very close to one another. Also, we had to pay a non resident daily fee just to enter the park which is now $8.00. I second Taylorsville State Park, a COE developed campground run by the State of Kentucky. There is not a bad site to be had and it's close to Bardstown KY, one of our favorite towns in the Midwest. KY Horse Park is a good choice to stay when traveling to the Arc Encounter, it's only a 40 minute drive. Also, you could spend an entire day at the Horse Park and not see it all. Lexington has lots to see and do and the horse farms that ring the city are a treat to see. Pleasant Hill, a restored Shaker Village, is not far away. The Creation Museum is about a 90 min drive off I-275 that circles around Cincinnati. There is an Indian Springs CG in North Bend Ohio that is about 15 minutes North that can be seen on the West side of the Interstate but I don't know anything about it.1.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Kentucky Horse Park CG
you should be aware that they will be booked solid all month because of all the temp workers that follow the horse racing circuit. Keeneland runs races all month long in Oct. The Pinery is one of our favorite campgrounds in all of North America, our kids sort of grew up there in the 80's and 90's. We now live near Cincinnati but we plan on going back one more time in August to relive some of those fond memories. We hope to snag a Riverside electric site but years ago we tented at one of the Burly Camp sites where the kids could walk over a couple of dunes to the beach on Lake Huron. White sand, tall oaks, pines and no mosquitos. The fabric you are having issues with is called "Bonded Leather" and was developed to recycle shavings from the finishing process of producing upholstery grade leather. The shavings are then glued to a polyester backing. Unfortunately, the gluing does not last and the furniture industry is flooded with thousands of complaints. Sadly, the warranty on upholstery fabric is usually only 1 year. There are commercial grade vinyls available that are reasonably priced and are rated to withstand at least 100,000 double rubs (an industry test standard for commercial fabrics). We stayed at the Straits a couple years ago. I remember that the sites were very small. When you get to Jackson be sure to take in the Bar J Wrangler Chuckwagon dinner show in nearby Wilson WY. We always stay at Colter Bay in the Tetons and we do the southern loop of Yellowstone from there. Then we stay in a West Yellowstone Campground to see the Northern loops of Yellowstone.
