Have visited/stayed there multiple times, but all before the renovations. We're heading back there in a few weeks and I'm a planner. I don't just have plan B, I have C, D, and E too. So I'm just curious what to expect and if we need to bring anything out of the ordinary for our trip. Fishing Bridge - how is it after the renovations? Wow, been a few years since I've been on here. I guess the forum format is gone? Haven't been to Yellowstone/FB since 2017. How are the spaces/amenities since the renovations? Anything particularly good/bad? Never had any issues parking my 35-footer in the previous tight spots, was always kind of fun. How are the bathrooms/showers/laundry areas? Pic of family and rig... Is it still a semifloater rear axle?Re: More important in TV - Weight or WheelbaseI had the opportunity to do a quasi-scientific test, and the results surprised me. I own two trucks, as you can see in my sig: 2008 Suburban 2500 - curb weight 6500 lbs 2009 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 - curb weight 5500 lbs The Suburban has the weight advantage, but the Denali has a 14" longer wheelbase. Towed the same trailer, back-to-back, the same day. Just a little 12' enclosed trailer, weighing about 4000 lbs. The difference was HUGE. The Denali pulled it so much better - less bouncing and porpoising, just a much smoother tow. I was surprised how big of a difference it was. Go with the longer wheelbase truck.Re: GM SUV Quality opinions wanted. Maybe expedition ecoboost.Previously owned a 2001 Suburban, as my sig below shows, we have two GMT900 trucks. The Suburban has been absolutely amazing and trouble-free. Less than $100 in repairs over the last 5 years. The Sierra Denali has had some repairs - front half-shaft and wheel bearing, rotors warping (I believe the half-ton trucks are underbraked). Both trucks are superior in just about every way to my 2001 Suburban. Neither one has a single crack in the dash, but the Denali had two of the door handles do the razor blade trick. Cheap and easy to replace. And the 2500 is a superb tow vehicle. Yes, in absolute terms, it's not as good as an GMT800 with the 8.1, but it moves my 900-lb family of 5 and 8600-lb trailer just fine, including the high passes in the Rockies. I'll happily sacrifice a little towing capacity to have my 4 heated seats, power tailgate, remote start, heated steering wheel and other nice goodies.Re: Jeep Pickup (Gladiator) mich800 wrote: intheburbs wrote: Kinda curious what's different about the Gladiator that they more than double the trailer tow rating of the Wrangler Unlimited. 7650 lbs towing capacity, which is a gigantic leap over the 3500 of the Wrangler. So what was the limiting factor in the Wrangler? Frame, brakes, receiver, axles, other? Looking at the specs, not sure how "3rd generation Dana heavy-duty axles" compare to the Dana 44? Is it more like a 60? I am thinking wheel base is a pretty big factor. If you have spent much time in a wrangler even the unlimited wheeelbase versions they are not the best on road vehicle. I have yet to be in one that wasn't a wandering SOB on pavement. I cannot imagine a high profile 6k trailer behind one. You did read my sig, right? ;) Both of my Wranglers are rock-solid; so much so that I let my teenage kids drive them all the time. And when I rotate tires, I take them out on the highway at, shall we say, extralegal speeds, and again both rock-solid. Right up into triple digits.Re: Jeep Pickup (Gladiator)Kinda curious what's different about the Gladiator that they more than double the trailer tow rating of the Wrangler Unlimited. 7650 lbs towing capacity, which is a gigantic leap over the 3500 of the Wrangler. Don't know about yours, and my wife's '16 isn't home right now to look at her payload sticker, but the payload of my 2010 Wrangler is 850 lbs. A 3000-lb trailer will have at least 400 lbs of tongue weight, plus the weight of the hitch itself, and you're not left with a lot payload for people and gear. We love our Jeeps, but they're definitely not tow rigs. Hell, when I climb into one with my two grown sons and my friend, just the four of us puts us over on payload.Re: 3/4 ton gasser gas mileage? goducks10 wrote: It's my understanding that you can't get anything but 4.10's with the 6.0 GM According to the owner's manual for my '09 Denali, all of the HD trucks with the 6.0, both 2500 and 3500, can have either the 3.73 or the 4.10. The 4.10 trucks have a 2500-lb higher rating for both max trailer weight and GCWR. The 3/4-ton Suburbans with the 6.0 all get the 3.73. 4.10 isn't even an option.Re: 3/4 ton gasser gas mileage?7 MPG pulling the rig below, ~16,000 lbs GCW. I drive it like I stole it, and usually get 13-14 when not towing. If I try really hard, and set the cruise control at 65-70, she might get me 15-16. I'm sure the GY Wrangler Duratrac tires don't help my mileage, either.
