When he is plugged into 110 volt (shore power) the lights and heater and everything works fine. However when he is dry camping he has no lights and nothing works. He has checked the battery etc. So my question is where do you start looking for the problem. Are there fuses in there somewhere that is blown and not letting power from battery travel to lights etc. Thanks and suggestions will help and be a starting point.Refrigerator QuestionsMy neighbor just bought a 2014 Flagstaff T12TST A-Frame folding trailer. The previous owner said that the Fridge will run on propane, electric and/or Battery. She also said that if you run it on the battery it will drain the battery in 1 hour or less. So my questions are: 1. Is that true that the fridge will drain the battery that quickly? 2. When traveling can you put the fridge in propane mode in case you stop for more than an a couple of hours you can leave it w/o switching back and forth between battery and propane.Engine brake questionTraded in my 2004 duramax for a 2017 Powerstroke which comes with a engine brake. I have never had an engine brake before and was wondering what you do or how to use it when coming down a hill pulling a 5th wheel. So my question is when you are at the top of a hill beginning your descent with a 10,000 trailer behind what do you do or how do you use the engine brake on a powerstroke to hold you back. Thanks like to know what to do before I get to that situation.Re: Leveling 5th wheel questionI have followed this issue a lot on another forum and here is what I have heard. Raising the ball on the anderson hitch "will not" solve your problem about hitting the side rails on your truck because it is the hitch inside the box hitting the rails not the trailer. So there are 2 ways to mount the block on your 5th wheel kingpin. When you mount it with the kingpin behind the ball on the you have more clearance from the cab but if you try to make any turn aroung 40 degrees or more you will hit the rails. So what folks are doing is mounting the bracket on the kingpin so that the kingpin is in front of the ball. Basically moving the trailer closer to the cab. By doing this it will give you approx 85 degrees of turning radius. There is a lot of discussion on this subject on the GrandDesign forum. I also have the anderson ultimate hitch in my short box truck I run it with the ball set on the middle hole and have the kingpin so that it is in front of the ball on the hitch.Generator/surge protector questionI'm going dry camping this weekend for the first time and will be using a Yamaha 2000 generator. When I camping with hookups I always used a surge protector/voltage regulator plugged in at the power source. So my question when using a generator this weekend should I leave the surge protector off or continue to use it with the generator?Wheel ChocksFor many years I have used Roto-chocks on my fifth wheel and had no issues. The problem came when I decided to buy a new 5th wheel and now the Chocks are not wide enough. I believe Roto-Chock is out of business so my question is there any other way to add about an inch of material to each side of my current chocks. The distance between the tires on the new trailer are about 2 inches further apart than the old trailer. Or am I better off to just buy some new chocks.Re: battery boilingLike many have said it may be the converter which can be tested. I know the smell because i had it in my trailer and when i figured it out was kinda embarassed and felt pretty stupid. When i hooked up my batteries i became distracted and hooked up the cables wrong. I hooked positive to negative and negative to positive. Eventually it did boil the batteries, smelled terrible when it was plugged into 110 and caused the battereies to cook dry and bulge the side. I'm not proud of what i did but very thankful something worse didn't happen.Re: tired of lookingi appreciate all the input from all of you it gives me at least some options to look at hopefully the models don't change much from now to next year. I'm kinda looking in the size of 30' to 34' but open to all options.tired of lookingwe are looking at upgrading our 5th wheel next year, we are not full timers so we are looking at something price wise more the mid range. Anyway what we are looking for an have not been able to find is this "we want a queen size bed with a night stand on each side of the bed" nightstands where we can put a clock or small reading light. we have looked at 5th wheels with and without slide outs and had no luck. Any suggetions on models you have seen that meet this criteria.Re: Tire dilema/questionThanks everyone for your replies, I'm going to do some digging around based on the feedback. My trailer weighs around 8,400 which rules out many of the LT in 15". But i will look into maybe converting to 16" wheels and also check out Maxxis and couple other names thrown out. I don't put on a lot of miles and never drive over 65mph. Current tires are towmaster and carlise brand 4-5 years old. Having had 2 blowouts in the past i would rather replace than be sitting along the freeway somewhere in 100 degree temperature.
