It didn't seem to act right and ran down and will no longer hold a charge even when disconnected from the TT. Will towing charge the battery? Also, will the TT draw off the tow vehicle, a 2004 Expedition, if we choose not to replace the TT battery? Can you recommend a good battery if we decide to replace the battery? Sorry for all the questions, we are battery challenged :DTires for tow vehicleJust bought a 2004 Ford Expedition that will be our tow vehicle. Needs new tires. What would be a good choice? Will be towing a 5000lb travel trailer 2000 miles next month but then will be towing only short distances a few times a year. I assume a LT rather than P tire. Does it have to be E rated? Don't want to spend top dollar but enough for a decent 50k mile safe tire. Suggestions?? Thanks!Installing an Equalizer HitchHi, all. We are looking for a weight distribution hitch and have found a used equalizer that should work for us. It's rated for 12,000. We will be hauling a 5000lb unloaded weight tt with a expedition with a heavy duty towing package with lots of cargo as we are moving cross country. My question is can we install the equalizer ourselves or does it need to be professionally installed. I see their site suggests having it professionally installed due to some special tools, etc. Also, is there anything to look for in a used unit that would make it unsafe or unusable? The price is only $275 vs new. Thanks!Re: Questions about hot water tank and furnaceThanks to everyone for all the great responses! Your help is greatly appreciated!! Mysteries solved. The hot water tank was hidden under the head of the bed. Little did we know there was an access door there as well as storage at the foot of the bed. And the furnace was exactly where the previous owner told us the fridge access was (guess he never opened it).Questions about hot water tank and furnaceWe have questions about the 1996 Wilderness TT we just bought. The last owner was unable to help us much with some of the operating systems as he had not had it long. It did have a copy of the original owner's manual but that doesn't include things like the hot water tank or furnace and that is where we are stumped. We have no idea where the hot water tank is located (could it be in the wall above the hot water heater?). We have an atwood water heater which we think is dual gas/electric from the model number but could get no hot water while on shore power even when flipping the switch on the wall by the sink. Our other mystery is heat. We have a Coleman rooftop ac and the thermostat on the wall says Coleman and controls both heat and ac. Since we could find no furnace anywhere we assumed it was a dual roof mount Coleman heat pump. However, when on shore power the fan blows but no heat. Any thoughts? Thanks!Re: Older Terry TrailerHi, Too Tall. We just bought a 1996 Wilderness at is a 24M. It too is in really nice condition. Did you get all owners manuals and operator manuals for the various systems with yours? We have been trying to piece together what we have and how to work everything. Would love to compare notes....Operating manual 1996 Fleetwood WildernessHi, guys. Anyone know where I can get an Operators Manual for a 1996 Fleetwood Wilderness? I called Fleetwood and they only have the Owners Manual. I already have a photocopy of the owner's manual but it says to refer to the operators manual for complete details on the systems. Thanks!Update on Used TT SearchThanks to everyone for all the valuable advice given during my used travel trailer search. I had hoped to get a good second hand tt for about $3500. Had a couple of very old ones I looked at and one that had been sitting and needed work. Settled on spending another 1k and came home with this 1996 Wilderness. So far we love it! Has new wheels, tires, brakes, current inspection and recently coated rubber roof. No leaks or water damage and everything works! Now we just have to learn how to use everything and do some trail runs. Thanks again! Sure I'll be back with more questions.Re: Buying a used TT that's been sitting?I'm glad you mentioned winterized! I was just sitting here thinking about that. If it wasn't how knows about the pipes! And if it is now how can I check things? Hmmmm.Buying a used TT that's been sitting?Hi, gang. My DH and I are still searching for our first second hand economy travel trailer. We may be looking at a 1992 Dutchman Classic this coming weekend. It looks to be in very nice, clean condition and has been kept under cover the last several years. I spoke with the owner today and my concerns are it has been sitting for 3-4 years. Two tires are flat and the owner said he would replace those but I would want all new tires naturally. As far as leaks, he knows of none but then again it has sit under cover. It will need to have the roof coated and caulking all round checked and redone. In addition, I am wondering about wheel bearings and brakes. Is it worth considering? I could probably get it for $2500 without the new tires. What might I expect to run in to cost wise to have it road ready in your opinions? Thanks!
