All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: hauling trailer to AlaskaWe drove to Alaska last year from the midwest and after crossing into Canada, we dry camped the majority of the time-the longest stretch was 19 straight nights-until we returned to the lower 48. Plenty of pull offs to stop overnight. As long as it is not marked, find one that suits your needs and spend the night. Get a Milepost because it lists all the pull off along the way. There are lots of free dump/fill stations along the way..Re: Anchorage Campgrounds, bad as they say?We also stayed in Palmer. It is an easy drive into Anchorage.Re: Acadia Campground HelpBar Harbor is a zoo that we drove through and immediately departed and this was in October. . Lots of great places to eat that are not in Bar Harbor.Re: Camp HostingWas not a positive experience for us. We were supposed to be campground hosts but when we showed up, they were not expecting us along with several other couples. We ended up cleaning 3 public bathrooms (a state public road ran through the state park) in the state park and we saw things we will not be able to forget. Two successive head rangers were fired while we were there and there were several major thefts-one was a 4 wheeler belonging to maintenance-while we were there. And our fellow volunteers were a racist group that we wanted nothing to do with. We stuck out our obligation since we were basically not supervised but would never do this again. Edited to add that this was at Georgia Veteran’s State Park in Georgia.Re: Primary Care PhysicianIf you get a PPO (I think FL has a Blue Cross EPO) and your current primary physician in in the network, you should be able to still use them. If not, you will have to find a new one. It is difficult to find health care that travels.Re: nev-r-lube bearingsWe have 8k Moryde IS suspension with 50mm bearings and disc brakes. We really had no warning that there was an issue until a motorist signaled to us. It was a catastrophic failure of that wheel and its components at a low speed (25 mph).Re: nev-r-lube bearingsThey are really easy to replace yourself. We ordered the parts and changed the bearings, brake pad, calipers. We also had to replace the rotor on one wheel. Don’t let them go. Ours had less than 50k miles when one went in. Feb. Thankfully a motorist warned us and we were able to get onto a frontage road and we were traveling at a low speed when it failed. It ruined everything-tire,rim, brake pad, calipers, warped the rotor, and of course the bearing assembly was gone. We have Moryde IS and once that happens, the suspension is on the ground. Roadside service was able too strap up the suspension and we limped to a parking lot where we sopend the next 8 days awaiting parts. No one carries them. The failure occurred on a Friday afternoon so we had to wait for Monday to order the necessary parts. Once we were repaired and made it to our destination, we changed out the other three bearing assemblies. We were lucky. We could have had a fire or ripped up our living room slide if we had been going interstate speed.Re: Toll plazas - bus/truck lane or passenger car lane?We have a dually and use any lane that accepts our toll pass. It is a tight fit but we do fit. Some toll plazas do not even have special lanes for trucks or buses.Re: Protecting graphics with 303?303 did not help our decals at all. They are not crumbling but at almost 7 years old, they are faded and not nice looking. We still use it but it does not help.Re: Replace never lube bearing with traditional bearingsWe had a Neverlube bearing go recently. 6 years old and less than 50k miles. Thankfully, a motorist warned us so we were off the interstate onto a feeder road when it let go. It broke the rim, ruined the tire, the brakes and calipers. We were stuck in a shopping center for 8 days (occurred on a Friday afternoon) because no one carries the parts-we had to order them on line a wait for delivery at a UPS facility. We were able to make repairs and get to our campground where we promptly ordered replacements for the remaining wheels. Thankfully we had a spare and rim to put on. We have Moryde IS and the assembly the spindle is on was bent and we have an appointment to get that replaced soon. it could have been so much worse. No fire and no damage to the body of the RV because we were going at a low rate of speed. Interstate speed would have had much different results.
