Most place it in your storage area or mounted to the front but wondering about finding a way to get it under the rear area of the truck. That's one of many questions I have about ours that I haven't answered yet. I'm leaning toward using one of the toolboxes or putting it off the front with a front receiver built rack but no firm decisioin yet.Re: New Ram 5500 Build sbhfs wrote: Similar to Padres_Chris I am looking at 84" chassis cab with the 8'X11'4" aluminum bed with camper COG over the rear axle, front space and down the sides top and bottom with boxes. Full time use and need the space for all the gear for biking, backpacking, ski and surf/foil...you get the picture. Will anyone talk me down to a 60" with better turn radius and off road? Is there such a thing as too much storage on a truck camper? Design questions: What is the gap this group would recommend between the boxes and the side of the camper? The tighter the harder to load, the bigger your are losing valuable storage space. Considering a Northern Lite 10.2...any advice on fast guns/ tie downs through or with the side boxes? With an standard 8' bed, rub rails and the width of the front legs you are getting very wide...any advice on tucking in the legs? I have seen pictures of a Douglas custom and looks like they customize a space for the legs but on a stock bed would require notching I suppose?? Any advice is appreciated. According to my paper napkin sketches, my current 60" cab to axle with the big ass bike rack hanging off the back is longer than what my 84" cab to axle with the bikes in the storage bin and no bike rack.... -ChrisRe: New Ram 5500 BuildWe've ordered a similar 5500 84" cab to axle. 3-4 month wait! We are planning a 11' flatbed also, but we'll hang the camper(arctic fox 990) off the back end of the bed like it does on the 8' bed. We plan to use the space between the camper and cab for a large storage box to carry bikes. Do you ever run into much issues with dragging those rear boxes when you drop off an incline or something?Re: AGM battery adviceWe're looking to switch to agm batteries. Will our stock inteli-power 9200 series charger model pd9245c work ok with those? Thanks ChrisRe: Epdm roof replacement elastomeric options donn0128 wrote: Roof is warrented for 12 years. Have you contacted Northwood Mfg directly? I've left two voicemails and sent two emails. None were responded to. I'd prefer to do it myself and know it's done right than to trust them to do another less than stellar job. -ChrisEpdm roof replacement elastomeric optionsThe Epdm roof on our 2.5 year old Arctic Fox truckcamper has become separated from the plywood surface below. The separation covers almost the entire roof. I don't see how this is possible. I'm very diligent with checking for gaps in sealant and refreshing the lap sealant every 6-8 months. I've only cleaned the roof with water and a light detergent and foam sponge. Usually every 6-8 months also. Regardless the rubber has become so loose that it's ballooning up and rubbing on things like the roof rack and edges of the air conditioner. I'm thinking of removing the epdm, since it has since been cut through by the rack and ax, I'm considering several types of elastomeric coatings. I have communicated with the manufacturers of safe-t-plex in Canada. They stated that on a bare plywood roof I can tape the plywood seams with their tape and apply 3 coats of their coating product to obtain a good roof sealant. Sounded good, however shipping 5 gallons cost $100 bringing the required materials from $300 up to $400. Has anyone ever used the Henry or Gardner products available at homedepot? Or does anyone have any direct experience with the safe-t-plex? Or any other thoughts in general on my project? I've also considered the bed-liner options. Thanks ChrisArctic Fox Wiring/AmmeterAfter hours of tracing wires, calling northwood and google'ing I finally was able to resolve an issue I was having with my 2013 Arctic Fox 990 not charging the house batteries via the truck. What a frustration! I was very surprised the tech guy at Northwood was totally clueless when I asked them for a wiring diagram or suggestions as to where various wires went/came from. It almost seems like they change their wiring layout day to day. Anyways, I've decided to try and create my own wiring diagram the best I can while I work away on a few other project I would like to do. Anyone else happen to have one? The next project on my list is installing a few ammeters. I would like to be able to monitor: -amps going to the house batteries via the truck alternator -amps amps going to the house batteries via the generator -amps leaving the house batteries to run lights/stereo/etc. Question is for the ammeter shunt for the charging system coming from the truck: Should I install the shunt near to where in enters the camper or try and trace it to the nearest location to the battery before it reaches the distribution block? Thanks -Chris
