Was looking at that as a fill up point.Re: South Florida Routes to the KeysI 75 looked faster, being an interstate, thanks for the US 41 input will look at it. Is it considered a faster route than I 75 across the Everglades? Thanks.South Florida Routes to the KeysHeading to the Keys late December. Will be traveling from Naples via I 75 east. Looking for best route south of I 75 to the keys. Currently looking at a couple routes; 1) US 27 south to hwy 997 to US 1, 2) US 27 south to hwy 281 to US 1. Would appreciate pros and cons on these two options as well as suggestions on other routes. We need to make it from Naples to the Key West area in one day. Thanks in advance.Re: best brisket in TexasI certainly agree with "brisket on the road". Can't beat it while RVing in a nice setting. Can't comment on the best in Texas, but agree that it's hard to beat what you cook for yourself after you iron the kinks out. I'm a Big Green Egg fan and travel with a "small" and use a XL at home. Doesn't matter what you cook with as long as you and the family enjoy what's put on the table. BarryRe: St. Louis Mo. To Destin FloridaWe've made that trip a number of times using both the Nashville and Jackson, MS routes. We now use I-55 to Canton, MS, just north of Jackson, to spend the night. The next day trip to Destin is less than a full day. This is the route outlined in the previous post using hwys 49 and 98 from Jackson to Destin.Re: Has anyone moved froma 5th wheel to an airstream trailer? We moved from a fifth wheel to an Airstream about a year and a half ago. Good move for us. We had the 5er for about nine years, an Everest, and it was showing its mileage plus we wanted smaller and with less moving parts to maintain, eg, slides. The Airstream towes and backs easier IMHO. Very stable on the road. True there's less storage space in the Airstream, but with the 5er hitch removed from the truck bed and purging of the "stuff" we had in the belly, we found we had plenty of room in the truck. Our 30' Airstream vs the 37' 5er gives us more flexibility in where we stop and, for me, an easier time parking in smaller CG's. For us it was a good change, might not be for everyone. You should travel/camp in what works best for you.Re: Front Axle Weight Restoration %APT, Thanks for the correction, you said what I meant today, unloaded front axle weight vs front axle hitched weight without WD. Thanks to those that posted.Front Axle Weight Restoration %There' lots of advice on the forum regarding what weight should be restored to the front axle when using a WD hitch. Just wondering if anyone had crunched some numbers and developed a per cent that a front axle should be restored to. As an example, say the unloaded/unhitched front axle is 4000 lbs. What per cent of that 4000 lbs should be restored to be safe? Is 80% or 3200 lbs safe, 90% or 3600 lbs safe? If a % could be used, cat scale readings would tell you where you need to be, and could be more meaningful than fender measurements. If this has been discussed, sorry, I didn't find it when I searched. Thanks in advance for responses.
