Washington Bridges---never want to do either in a fiver again! Just too much traffic, lane changes, etc. The added bonus is I-81 is a real pretty drive.Re: Steep DrivewayWe too have a challenging driveway rise. If the dealer you are working with is local, get him to bring the unit you like and let him be the first to back it in. We did this and tried 2 units before we found one that would clear without bottoming out. We told him if he could get it up the driveway he had a sale---that was motivation for him to bring the fivers by our house. Obviously we compromised floor plans, features, etc. But in the end wound up with a unit that has worked for us. It was a "must" for us to be able to park in the driveway to pack, do maintenance, winterize, etc. We store it in a covered location, but would not like to be in a situation where we can't park at the house. Good luck!!Re: Best polish for gel cap and sides of 5th WheelX2 on the Wash Wax All by Aero Cosmetics. The kit has a very well built extension handle--can do virtually the entire unit from the ground. The kit also has a degreaser that takes off bugs and black streaks. Have been using it now for 2 years. Absolutely no oxidation and good shiny appearance. I apply once at start of season then again before winterization.Re: Looking for 5th wheel bunkhouse - First PurchaseYou might look at the Rockwood Signature Ultralite 8281WS. We have the 2010 version without the wardrobe slide. We have twin daughters and a son. Has been pretty good for us so far. Had to replace a slide motor last year, but other than that, no problems. Have gone up and down the east coast several times in addition to weekend trips. It is in the 30-32' range.Re: looking for shortest possible bunkhouse with slidesP.S. overall length is 31'.Re: looking for shortest possible bunkhouse with slidesI have a 2010 Rockwood 8281 SS that has two slides, one for the rear bunkhouse. Bunkhouse has a queen futon sofa and a single bunk over. There is also a 1/2 bath. U-shaped dinette. The newer model is 8281WS that has the same, but added a wardrobe slide in the master. I know Rockwood is not exactly top of the line, but we are just finishing 4 seasons with no problems other than a slide motor giving out last year. I have twin 12 year old daughters and a 14 year old son. And a small dog. Has served us well.Re: Plumbing QuestionFinally figured it out! To get the elbow fitting off, I had to remove the filter housing, then remove the filter bracket, then uncouple the outlet side and then spin the top of the filter housing off the elbow rather than vice versa. Re-did Teflon tape around all fittings, installed a new greased-up o-ring for the housing and put the whole mess back together. Hooked up the hose and put pressure on for a couple hours, ran some water at the sinks, and found the leaks have stopped. I learn something new every time something happens---guess it is the benefit of owning a rolling house! Thanks to those who responded---this forum continues to be a wealth of education for me!Re: Plumbing QuestionGood suggestions---thanks!! My unit is 5 years old and this was the second trip this season. I had re-greased the o-ring when I de-winterized and installed a new cartridge. Everything was tight and no problems on my first trip.Plumbing QuestionJust came off a 10-day trip and on the last day found a small leak coming from around the water outlet on the filter housing. It is a threaded plastic elbow fitting. I figured I needed to tighten it or perhaps remove it and re-apply some Teflon tape; but the fitting has some kind of thin plastic, square collar that doesn't look like it would stand up to something like water pump pliers. So I decided to just put a pan underneath to catch the drips for the rest of my time and deal with it at home. Does anyone know of a tool that is made specially for that kind of fitting? I've done a little googling, but haven't found anything that looks like what I would need. I also had some drips start coming from around the o-ring seal on the filter housing, so I need to address that too. I put the housing wrench on it but was about as tight as could be. I've ordered new o-ring, but wondering if anyone ever had an o-ring "fail." I did have my water pressure reducing valve in line, so not a campground pressure issue. Thanks for any responses!Re: Bike Carrier Bluesx2 on the Yakima roof mount racks--work great on a crew cab. There is a weight limit for the cross bars, so even if you could put 5 bikes up (probably not enough lateral room) you have to watch the total weight. I carry 3 with no problems.
