We really like them due to their versatile use. We bought them in 2008, and have used them many times.Re: Do we have any recourse?I am not sure if this issue has been resolved to your satisfaction, neither do I know what part of the country you are in. But, if you are in the West or Northwest, I would highly suggest contacting Aaron at the Forest River factory in Dallas Oregon. We had MANY warranty issues with our 2014 Salem and after months of dealing with CW, and another dealer (where we purchased the RV), Aaron facilitated the complete service and repair of our RV and we are very happy.Re: Had sleep study last night: calling all auto cpap users! My cousin died from sleep apnea at the age of 39 in 2011. I soon realized that my husband was exhibiting symptoms. So I finally talked him into going to the doctor. A sleep study was ordered and during the middle of it, the technician woke him up and fitted him with a CPAP. He was waking up 96 times in an hour! No wonder we were always tired. He has always snores so loudly and been so disruptive but I've never slept with any one else so I thought it was normal. But I started sleeping later every day and still felt tired. My husband has always complained about sore ribs and I realized it was from me poking him all the time to make him breathe. After getting his machine in 2012, he has only missed using it one night. It takes awhile to get used to it, but now I have a hard time falling asleep without listening to the machine. We bought the 12v adapter for our trailer and during the first trip back to the factory, a 12v receptacle was installed just under the shelf above our bed. So he sleeps like a baby when we go camping and so do I. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea please take it seriously. There are many causes and results that you don't want to experience.Re: Soup TimeWe fix dinner every week (for the last 4 years) for our Bible study group. Since it is a large gathering (20-30 people) my husband usually makes a homemade soup. The favorite seems to be either Loaded Baked Potato or Pasta Beef. I was really surprised by how much I like the Pasta Beef, especially because I don't like tomato soup. Tomato soup Ground beef or turkey(browned) Penne pasta (prepared as directed on package) Heavy whipping cream Onion (sauteed) Salt and Pepper to taste Add all these ingredients to a crockpot and let simmer until ready to serve. Amounts of ingredients are dependent on how many you are feeding. We use a full size roasting pan to simmer our soup. Hope someone tries this recipe. I have been reading this thread and getting hungry. Ready to try some.Re: Weapon storage before entering Canada garyhaupt wrote: scrapnread wrote: I have never driven through Canada and the last time I crossed the border was more than 20 years ago. We had dinner on the Canada side of Niagara Falls. So my question is serious. Do the vehicles and rvs get searched when you cross the border on your way to Alaska? I know you are licensed. All that info pops up on Border computer screens, going either direction. You will get asked where's your gun. If you have it and haven't declared until that moment because you 'forgot' you had it, you will get turned back from Canada and maybe a fine. If you don't remember and they search and recover...bend over and kiss your bum good-bye..and your bank account and maybe your RV. And as has been pointed out..you will not be welcome into Canada ever again. Now, I know that US authorities are as stringent as their CDN counter-parts, but I don't know what they do with a US citizen that is re entering and neglects to declare their weapon. Gary Haupt Actually, we are not required to license guns or ourselves. Either way, we are not planning to drive through there for at least a year, so I am just doing research right now.Re: Weapon storage before entering CanadaI have never driven through Canada and the last time I crossed the border was more than 20 years ago. Set them upright in the morning, light the campfire, and enjoy your hot beverage in a nice dry chair. Can you tell we lived on the Oregon (everything stays damp) coast? lolRe: Starcraft, less than 12hrs old and already issuesI understand how the OP feels. We bought a 2014 Salem 27RKSS and on our very first trip, the entire front lower half of the trailer fell off. And that was only the beginning. After a few conversations with the manufacturer, our trailer was picked up and transported to the factory, (7 hours away) and everything was fixed, including replacing the 2 broken rocking chairs, the front diamond plate, window screens, water heater circuit board, and several broken blinds, the broken air conditioner, broken and missing stabilizer jacks and many other things. The manager in charge of our trailer asked if there was anything we had wanted on our trailer that it didn't come with. Now we have the outside shower, attached BBQ and electronic stabilizer jacks and it was all free. We are very happy with our trailer and especially now with all the improvements. The only thing that is surprising is a window and a window seal that needs to be replaced. When we mentioned it to the dealer to get it fixed. He said no problem, that is actually a recall issue! We wonder why they didn't fix it at the factory if they knew it was a recall. Weird Anyway, hope you get great service from your dealer and factory representative. Enjoy your new trailer, eventually.Re: CoolersAnother tip for keeping ice in the ice chest while camping: fill your cooler, stock with ice and then pour salt over the ice. I don't know why salt melts ice on your sidewalk and not in your cooler. But I know that years ago, when I filled the salad bar at the local restaurant, I iced around the containers and then salted the ice. It kept the ice from melting and in fact, fused the cubes together. This is what we do, especially when we go to the ocean dock and buy hundreds of pounds of tuna or salmon and need to transport them home several hours.Re: 2014 dodge 1500 newbieWe have the same truck except ours is a 2008 and our trailer is a 2014 Forest River Salem 27RKSS. We took it on our first trip to the Grand Canyon and back. The truck towed great. It was 4 adults in the truck and I tend to overpack so I am sure we were heavy. The trip was over 2k miles for us. We bought the truck a week before our trip. The first Dodge we have had and my husband is very impressed. Hope this helps.
