Or if a fellow CB'er can see if I have my "ears on" and alert me of anything happening to trailer to warn me before something bad happens.Re: Towing new trailer home with out WD gambo21 wrote: PnrFab wrote: ***Link Removed*** Well did you do it? :) Dealer actually ended up installing it for me for free while I finished up with the paper work inside. I went over it all later and they did a really good job as well :CRe: Towing new trailer home with out WD ScottG wrote: PnrFab wrote: same question i asked several months back So? There's nothing new under the sun so questions are going to be repeated. If they didn't, forums would die. I know how forums work thx for the tip. I was simply helping him by linking to the same exact topic I asked few months back that had really good responses. Not like I was telling the guy to use "search function its been asked before"Re: Towing new trailer home with out WDsame question i asked several months backRe: How often should wheel bearings be repacked? Lynnmor wrote: I think that you will find that the quality of the cheap, imported bearings has dropped substantially in recent years. To compare your old trailer or Chevy to what is being produced today might lead to problems. It is not so much about the frequency of greasing or the type of grease, it is about inspecting the cheap bearings for signs of failure. I learned my lesson and replaced the junk with made in USA Timken bearings. Where do you purchase your USA Timken bearings?Re: Adding gusset/bracing to shackle hangers...Thanks for all the replies everyone...lots of good tips on here. A few things that came up, regarding the hangers being over sized and pinched to fit the leaf springs, should I use a washer to fill in the space to keep it from being pinched?? And regarding the shackle bolts, they used to long of a shouldered bolt and the nut is all the way tight. I do plan on upgrading the shackles to the wet kit. I also came across this doing google image search. Adding gusset/bracing to shackle hangers...Has anyone added gussets or support to their shackle hangers? My 2017 Keystone Passport has me worried they'll rip off. I drew up a diagram in paint to kinda show what I'm talking about. The red would be the gusset/bracing I'd weld to the frame. There is nothing wrong with your set up. Here's a picture of the nuts and shackles while on the bench. Jim Yes shouldered bolt like others have suggested and like picture above as well. I went back underneath to take another pic. Glad I asked, cause this seems really weird to me to not have the shackle snugged up against the leaf spring but I guess is normal :? Like I said before I'm new to this TT thing. Re: Loose Shackle Bolts From Factory??? *PICS* sch911 wrote: Johno02 wrote: Those appear to be locking type nuts. In that case, the clearance may be to allow for proper flexing of the springs. I agree on the locking nuts, but that clearance does look a little excessive. I did notice how they appeared to be locking nuts as well, but flex should be coming from the bushing in the leaf springs. Looks like I'll be going back down there to snug them up a tad and mind as well put a wrench on the u-bolts too!Loose Shackle Bolts From Factory??? *PICS*While under my brand new TT this afternoon giving everything a once over and just trying to familiarize myself with everything under neath, I noticed the nuts for the shackle bolt wasn't tightened all the against the shackle/spring hanger. Was this an oversight from the factory? Look closly at the top row of nuts. Most have about 1/8 - 1/4 gap from being tightened all the way up to make contact at least. I'm new to TT but I'd never leave a shackle bolt that loose on a truck I've worked on, and I'll probably be fabing up some sort of gusset work for those spring hangers...look like they're ready to buckle!!..haha
