A narrower and more aerodynamic trailer would be an advantage.Re: Time for a new truck tdst51 wrote: 2manytoyz wrote: If you're considering a Dodge, please do some research on them, and read reports on how they perform with coil springs while towing. If you want a truck, buy one with a truck suspension. A close friend learned this le$$on the hard way. I don't know what that means about the coil suspension; does that means it's not a real truck with real truck suspension? Gee, funny how mine has a coil suspension, tows my RV just fine, and rides better than our car. This concerned me so I did some research, but the only negative thing I found was a debunked youtube video. All legitimate reviews I found said the Ram was actually more stable than the Ford when towing. But if you can refer me to anything please do. tdst51 wrote: RVs and half-ton trucks?!? Never happen with me unless it's a REALLY small RV. It's all relative. There are lots of people towing with SUVs; most half-ton trucks are markedly better than most SUVs. I would gladly consider an HD truck if they offered a decent engine that didn't cost $8000+. But I don't plan on towing anything over 24 ft at any rate.Re: Second Gen 3.5 EcoBoost and 10 Speed TransmissionWith a 516 lb-ft torque rating you'd think it would be beefy enough for anything you'd actually want to try to tow with either of the Hemis, but I guess they could get a slightly higher tow rating for marketing purposes with the other transmission.Re: Second Gen 3.5 EcoBoost and 10 Speed Transmission mtofell1 wrote: At some point does the high number of gears in a tranny become an annoyance due to gear hunting? I've heard a few complaints on the Ram 8spd for this. I'm currently in a 6sp which, when I was a kid, was 3 more gears than the best tranny :) 10 just seems ridiculous. That's what I was thinking. I wonder if they'll skip gears under light load.Re: Second Gen 3.5 EcoBoost and 10 Speed Transmission Sport45 wrote: Turbos make all the diesel owners proud. :) Without them the oil burners would be the wheezing pigs they used to be. Personally, I'd like to see Ford add a couple of cylinders to the 3.5 and make a 4.6 ecoboost. With 15# of boost it would have the sea level performance (and gas consumption) of the old 460 at any elevation while maintaining the unloaded economy of a small block. Agreed.Re: Adding factory accessoriesThanks everyone for your input. I didn't realize the dealer had to enable things nowadays, but it doesn't surprise me. I think I'll keep looking for a truck that has what I want, or order one.Re: Adding factory accessories dinwiddi wrote: I learned long ago, when you order a vehicle it is more personal and when you begin to complain dear wife reminds one "remember you got exactly what you wanted" and that tends to end the discussion. :)Re: Adding factory accessories GordonThree wrote: fla-gypsy wrote: Order the truck the way you want it. That's what I did with my current truck and probably will with the next one. I don't want a bunch of luxury fluff in my truck, just useful things. Are you still able to apply all incentives to a custom ordered truck? The $8000+ worth of incentives right now on the Ram 2500 are all "must take delivery from existing dealer stock." Is there a way around that? This is the big issue. I would love to order a truck, but I think you will be subject to whatever incentives are in effect at the time you take delivery. They may get better as the year goes on but who knows. And some dealers will give you a better price on one on their lot.Re: Adding factory accessories IdaD wrote: My mirrors fold automatically when I'm not careful pulling into my garage. Otherwise they're manual. :B As far as I know you can add factory brake controllers to any truck. Just as an FYI you can also add a factory backup camera to a Ram and have a dealer enable it and it'll work like it came from the factory that way. I've considered adding one to my truck but it's less important with a fifth wheel since I can see what I'm doing by looking over my shoulder, so I don't know if I'll do it or not. I suppose with kids I should do it just from a safety standpoint. Yeah, my mirrors folded automatically once. :)Re: Adding factory accessories TheSidwells wrote: You can always buy none OEM to meet your needs. Backup camera's are now required on all vehicles last I heard from 2016 and on. I bought my F350 with all 3 no issues and love it. They won't be required for two more years unfortunately. There is no reason not to have a $200 backup camera on a $40k plus vehicle. The HD trucks are more likely to have towing mirrors (they are standard on some).
