All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: best Jasper camground helpApologies for the rant on the cost of staying in Canada's NP's, especially as the OP didn't ask about cost, it's just that I feel really burnt and disappointed by the experience. Sure I could have also avoided the booking fee each night and risked a first come first served site, but not with 3 kids asking "are we there yet". And to top it off when I arrived in Banff all the designated RV parking was full by 10am so I found a parking lot over the bridge and out of town, only a few cars parked, I took up 8 spots and got a $55.00 fine. No where did it say 'NO' RV parking' as it did in other parking lots. That puts my 2 nights stay over $100 a night. A bigger ouch! Not happy.:(Re: best Jasper camground helpI booked jasper only 2 days prior to my arrival 2 days ago and got a full service site at the Whistler CG, must of got lucky! Or maybe it's because I phoned up and paid the $13.50 booking fee, because when I checked online ($11.00 booking fee) there was nothing available for my 30' TT, only rustic sites, which where still available apon my arrival. Also be aware that you will have to pay another $19.60 if you have more than 3 people, slightly cheaper for 2 and I think $9.80 for 1 person for every night you stay in the national park. A fire will also cost another $8.80. It all adds up! And to top it off, I took my 5 y.o. Daughter to the toilet where I had purchased 2 latte's and it cost a quarter. I'm sure that's the French influence. If you've been to Paris you'll know what I mean. :) My nights stay at jasper $77.70 ouch! Inc. Full serviced site $35.80. The only avoidable cost is the fire. The sad thing is I did it all again in Banff. Now if you're staying more than 7 nights you can get a national park pass valid for one year for $136. If money isn't an issue, go for it, otherwise! Go to the US it's a lot cheaper. Glacier NP for example.Re: New York camping over the memorial day weekendWe gave in and are paying over $100 a night for a bit of bitumen iinet New Jersey. I figured as you mentioned it would be more expensive everywhere this weekend if able to find a spot. Also, are hoping NYC will be a little quieter over this long weekend. BTW there are still around 20 sites left available if you want to join us?New York camping over the memorial day weekendWe thought it would be a clever idea to camp at New Jersey's liberty RV park over the memorial w/end as most people would be fleeing this area, this looks to be true as they have plenty of spots left, over 30 sites at the moment. So we phoned today to book 4 nights and they've upped the rate from $80 a night to just under $100. This is normal practice i would imagine to charge more on such occasions as the memorial w/end but, we are now looking elsewhere for this weekend, so they miss out on our business of $320. X 2 sites, totalling $640. to try and make an extra $160 in total. Not a great business decision I wouldn't of thought. Anyway, are there any other suggestions for this weekend around the N.Y. city are, Long beach or New jersey? Will be travelling from the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania of which we will have just spent 4 nights. Thanks in advance MikRe: Suggestions for camping over the Easter weekendThanks, with persistence we found a spot.Suggestions for camping over the Easter weekendWe are 2 Aussie families travelling across US and looking for 2 sites in North East of Florida or Gulf of Mexico coast line. Can travel as far as Ft Lauderdale if have to. Everywhere we have looked so far is booked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers MikRecommendation for RV park South of Fort Worth TxWe finally made it to Dallas after years of planning. I've had my Chevy Suburban for a week now and have adapted to driving on the right side, with the help from a GPS, man the highways here are crazy! We pick up our TT tomorrow and will be heading South from Fort Worth, any recommendations for a good friendly RV park heading South. And while I'm at it our next stop is Houston, so any good ones there as well? Cheers MikRe: Axel weight ??? APT wrote: Yay! I was just wondering about you yesterday if you found something yet. Thankfully you have a 39 gallon fuel tank to stretch the towing miles! I dint know that! 39 gallon is pretty descent. I have a 47.5 gallon (180 litre) tank in my Toyota prado which is standard. So at roughly $3.50 per gallon for gas X 39 = $136.50 to fill. Cheaper than Oz. Costs me $270 to fill my prado at $5.67 per gallon. And at roughly 9 miles per gallon I should be able to travel 350 miles, more than I plan to travel in one day.Re: Axel weight ??? intheburbs wrote: That one has the 6.0 motor. 8th digit of the VIN is the engine - U is the 6.0, G is the 8.1. Here's another one I found, not too far away than this, over in AR. It has the 8.1 motor and lower mileage: CLICK HERE FYI, I ended up buying this vehicle. Thanks for the link Intheburbs. Got a 172point vehicle inspection done on it, good Carfax report, not bad mileage. Can't wait to drive this big sucker. Hope the gas stations aren't to far apart. ;)Re: Axel weight ??? intheburbs wrote: That one has the 6.0 motor. 8th digit of the VIN is the engine - U is the 6.0, G is the 8.1. I'm trying to have it checked out. quite difficult being on other side of the world.
