I don't go over 60, while most of the campers passing me do 70 and better.16' Scamp and 2018 Ram 2500 dieselOver kill? Hell yes! But, I believe I would get around 17-18 mpg towing. With gas going through the roof, we are considering a 16 foot Scamp for long trips to visit family. (I don't fly) We used to travel in a 32 ft 5th wheel) Rather than to sell the truck which has 4 wheel drive and only 50,000 miles on it, we'd like to keep it. The truck gets 27 mpg hwy with 342 gear ratio, no wind doing 60 mph. It's comfortable and has a cap with a slide-out aluminum tray. Is this a fair assessment? It seems to me that pulling a 2000 lb trailer with a low profile (7'.6") would be nothing to pull. I'm blocking most of the wind with the cap.Re: Holy Chutzpa on the Surcharges BatmanI liked where they wanted to sell me added insurance for $5000.00 when the new trailer I bought already had factory insurance for three years. I refused the offer and was bombarded with the salesman's pitch for 40 minutes before he finally pushed a paper in front of me to sign off on the offer.roof sealI checked the roof of my trailer and noticed a few spots missing caulking. I live in it, so I'd like to insure that whatever seal I use will last. It gets hot here in El Paso, TX, so that might be a consideration. I need a suggesting as to what I should use. Thanks for your help.White crusty stuff.I found a white crusty-like substance on one the battery post to my trailer, so I cleaned it up and reattached the cable. How do I prevent this from happening again? I see where grease is applied to the post and clamp, or in older times, a penny put near it, I guess to draw the corrosion away from the post. I need a better solution. ThanksRe: can I tow on the ballThe weight of my ram diesel is more like 7800lbs loaded, sorry about that. I have a Blue Ox WD hitch with a 10,000 lb capacity. I'd like to test it without the spring bars attached and may do that in an upcoming trip.can I tow on the ballMy truck is a Ram 2500 diesel with a GVWR of 10,000lbs. My trailer weighs 5300 unloaded. I travel with a full tank of water and not much else, so my total cargo weight is maybe in the four hundred lb range. The truck has a cap and aluminum slide tray that I use for a bag of tools, bins with hoses for the sewer and another for water. The rest is two chairs, a stool and miscellaneous items that don't weigh much. I'll estimate my truck cargo weight, including wife and fuel plus the above at under five hundred lbs. So loaded is: 5700 TT weight VS 6700 truck. Do I need a weight distribution hitch with this combo or can I safely tow it on the ball. Thanks.Blue Ox 10000I bought this hitch and lost one of the L shaped retainers that holds the equalizer bars in place. Is there anything besides the original piece that could work? I Can't find a replacement for it at the stores.Re: leaking pipesDougrainer, some of the overfill went into the under-storage compartment---not much and an easy cleanup. I didn't see any water underneath the trailer, so I don't think much got trapped above the lining. We're in the dry desert, so what little is left will dry out.Re: leaking pipesMan, do I feel the fool. There is a second pull handle to another grey tank for the kitchen. It's separate from the rest and in its own compartment. Thanks all for the help.
