For us it's about a 4 hour drive from the east side of the San Francisco Bay. We like to Stay at the Harbor RV park on the bluffs above the Noyo River Harbor entrance. It's a small RV Park with only 50 spaces. They allow pets on leash, no loud music and it's clean. All slots have poer and water but only a few have full hook ups. At Night you can hear the muffled sound of the fog horn (it's below the bluff so no direct sound), Then bell on the Harbor Buoy and the sea lions. At the corner of the park on the Bluff is the Noyo River Grill which has excellent food and drinks and within walking or bicycling distance you can go down into the harbor for fresh seafood dinners and 4-5 different restaurants or cross the highway for good BBQ. In fort Bragg proper there are many good places to eat. Our favorites are Mayan Fusion and The Pub at North Coast Brewing (dog friendly on the covered patio) which has great food and excellent beers. From the RV park you can walk out onto the Noyo Headland bluffs (great place for a sunset walk with the dogs (fyi the path is paved so its stroller, wheelchair or walker friendly). on the north side of the Harbor brige is a paved trail along the bluffs that goes north for 8 miles and is great for bike riding (you can rent regular or E-bikes in Fort Bragg) There are 4 or 5 State parks between Fort Bragg and the Town of Mendocino with great hiking and there are 4-5 flat water rivers that you can paddle up in a canoe or Kayak. At big river you can bike upstream 7 or 8 miles on a nice trail. Out of Noyo Harbor they also run Fishing Charters for Salmo and Rock Fish, In Fort Bragg you can take a ride on the skunk train or go out on pedal rail cars (with electric assist) u into the redwoods. On out way home we take hey 128 for the wineries and always stop and Gowans Cider for some cider slushies, a gallon or two of frozen apple cider and a case of hard cider. Photos aren't uploading to this forum but I have this post in the Truck Camper Forum and the photos do show up there Re: Fort Bragg CA: one of my favorite weekend getaways it's now called Westport Beach RV Park and it's run by the same folks that run Caspar Beach RV Park. We stayed at Caspar Beach once. They had the RVs packed in like sardines. It was not a fun place to stay loud and smoky. Re: Autosocks In CA traction devices are required to be carried over the passes in winter. I have had to drive out in icy conditions to get to a hospital after Ruth fractured her ankle. You need chains on all 4 corners on ice covered off camber roads just to avoid sliding off the road into a ditch or over the cliff. Needed the surge protector last night I always keep my camper ready to roll when I'm home. Truck fueled, fridge stocked, fresh tank filled and shore line plugged in. I do it for spur of the moment trips and the fact that I live in earthquake country. One thin I had been thinking about was keeping my Progressive Industrie EMS Tk-30 inline from the house to the camper. Last night we had a city wide power outage. I went out and switched the fridge to propane from AC and I looked at the shoreline and thought "I better put the EMS on now" I'm glad I did Power came back on for a few seconds then went back on then went off multiple times in a row. before it finally stayed on. It was never on long enough for the EMS unite to analyze and send power to the camper. No way to tell if the surges would have damaged the camper or not but I had a nice piece of mind sleeping. I think I am going to leave it hooked up that way from now on. Re: the breakdown that saved my hide Ruth took 8th out of 24 at 1st level and 12 out of 28th at second level with one of the youngest horses in the competition. We were happy with the showing. Re: Hello good to see you, originally they had us as part of travel trailer until enough of us request a TC group. I too was afraid we would loose trip reports but they are working on migrating all the links. Hopefully we can get wazzoo to drop in Re: New Truck Camper Forum Comments I'm here and on the FB page Re: the breakdown that saved my hide not that I have found yet the breakdown that saved my hide My wife qualified for the National Dressage finals in Kentucky and we live in Northern California. That means we were doing a 5000 mile round trip hauling the horse. It also means we were going to cross the Sierras and the Rockies twice on I80. The truck was running great I had the Lance 1062 well stocked, trailer had been serviced so off we went. We crested Donner Summit of I80 in the Sierras with ease. As we were descending into Truckee on the east side the engine overheat warning flashed on the dash so I backed off and exited the freeway. As luck would have it the offramp exited onto a side road with a huge safe shoulder for both the truck and horse trailer. US RIDER got the horse and trailer towed to a stable and a medium Wrecker towed my and the truck/camper to Qualitly Automotive in Truckee. I had to dismount the camper in their lot so the truck could go up onto their lift. The hose that blew was maybe 4 inches long and the diameter of my index finger and was buried at the base of the turbo. They were going to have to take the top of the engine apart to reach it. we explained our destination and timeline for reaching the Championships and they moved some repairs around to get us to the front of the line Parts got ordered and work got started. they had everything pulled and were waiting on the arts to arrive so the mechanich started checking everything while the truck was on the rack. He found that the frond rotors were under spec for wear so I said replace them. when they pulled the calipers to get to the rotor chunks of caliper piston fell out. New caliper time. They had the truck finished by Wednesday afternoon, abut 6 hours of shop time. We were back on the road Thursday morning and made Kentucky on time and had a successful competition. If the shops mechanic had not gone the extra mile in checking out everything on the truck we may have lost our front brakes descending one of the steep grades in the Rockies. He literally saved out hides. We sopped in on our way home to Drop off Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale for the staff as a thank you. Quality Automotive Service in Truckee CA. good folks. FYI I had had the brakes checked a year ago. truck is a 2011 Ford F350 Diesel CC 4x4
