All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Leaky RoofOK, it looks like I need to do some work :-) The only part that seems to be damaged is the drywall inside the front closet on the right side. I can't see any other damage anywhere else. Of course, the leak could be anywhere and is just showing up at that point in the closet. I have never done a pressure test. Is there a particular procedure to it? Thanks BertLeaky RoofHi All, The roof on my 5er (Wildcat 28BH)has started to leak near the front. I went up there to see if there was anything obvious wrong, but it all looked fine to me. Is there something I can apply to the roof to seal it? Thanks BertRe: Hydraulic ProblemOK, thanks, I'll drop them a line, then. BertRe: Hydraulic Problem Chris Bryant wrote: it should use ATF. Are you sure Lippert has nothing on your system? If you go to http://lci1.com/support-center, click on the slide setup you have, and you will get a tabbed page, with tabs for technical info, manuals, faq, etc. The manuals will give the service manuals. You're right, Chris, it is ATF. Thanks. BertRe: Hydraulic ProblemI think that is what I am going to try. Any idea what oil goes in it? There's nothing on the unit itself to tell me. It looks like power steering fluid but I don't know for sure. BertRe: Hydraulic ProblemThe problem is that it happened over a period of time as it sat parked. The fluid ran down the pump mounting structure to the bottom of the front basement, across the front and down the right jack to the ground. I looked at the seal today and it seemed odd. There is an O ring but the reservoir slips over it and is bolted in place. The seal isn't compressed by the reservoir as it is bolted in because they are in different planes (the barrel shaped reservoir just slides over the O ring, it doesn't butt up against it). I am beginning to suspect that the reservoir bolts had backed off just enough to allow the fluid to leak out. I can find no physical damage anywhere. BertHydraulic ProblemHi All, I have a Wildcat 28BH with a single hydraulically actuated superslide. We haven't used the rig in a couple of years and I see that all of the hydraulic fluid has leaked out onto the ground. At first, I assumed that the reservoir had somehow been damaged since it was completely empty but I took it out and I can see no physical damage to either the reservoir or the pump unit. The lines are on top so I can't see how they could empty the reservoir but they appear to be fine anyway. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I assumed that the pump would be unable to completely empty the reservoir so I kinda ruled out a broken line (but I checked anyway). I can find no damage of any kind to the unit or anything attached to it. The reservoir has a Lippert Components sticker on it but their website covers everything except hydraulic systems. The only tag I can find on the pump portion is a Haldex sticker but that is just the motor, not the pump. Thanks BertRe: Tailgate update for 5th wheel tow vehicles Jaxom wrote: Not exactly a 5th wheel, but I had issues when hooking & unhooking my gooseneck trailer. I had to back up to the GN, then lower the tailgate. Then back up enough to close the tailgate. Otherwise it would hit the lower front of the trailer! Then I had to continue to back up until the GN ball was centered underneath the GN hitch. If I was off a little I had to wiggle the truck back & forth with the GN hitch post inside the bed. Not a fun thing to do. That's one of the main reasons I chose to go with a king pin on my gooseneck rather than a ball. Plus, you are required by law to use safety chains with a ball but not with a king pin. That tells me that unintentional trailer/tv separation is far more likely with a ball than a king pin. More on topic, though, I don't think that a V-gate would help you if you have a ball hitch. Since the ball is much lower than a 5th wheel, the hitch on the trailer has to be much lower to contact it. No V-gate that I am aware of has a notch low enough to accommodate the height of a ball hitch. My 2 cents... BertRe: Duramax IssueI had a 2005 3500 CC DA DRW. Somewhere around 60K miles, it blew both head gaskets. I am now on my second Dodge. BertRe: 2wd vs 4wdPersonally, I would never buy a 4X2. I have had too many situations where 4X4 saved me - not necessarily from being stuck, although that has happened, but saving my grass where I park my 5er at home. A number of times, I went to pull my 5er out only to blow traction in the back end because the grass was a bit wet. If I hadn't had 4 wheel drive, I would have chewed the daylights out of my grass. Put in 4X4, though, and the truck walked out of there like it was nothing. I always put my truck in 4X4 when towing a trailer and I leave the pavement. It doesn't have to be boondocking, just loose gravel, sand or grass. My 2 cents worth, anyway. Bert
