I would replace it with another one and this time use some heavy wheel bearing grease on the bars and start out with some in the sockets also. That head, or a similar one, is still sold under a variety of brand names It appears as what you have is a classic case of no grease on the bars. Barney Do you think it is safe for a couple more <100 mile trips before I bite the bullet and get a new head and bars?W/D head elongationI have a Draw-Tite round bar head for my dual cam W/D system. 1000# bars 7000# dry weight Over the last 9 years, I have had to grab so many links to level my little half-ton TV that i have elongated the holes where the round bars seat in the head. (see picture) Other than the reduced pressure due to the changed geometry, and the risk of them falling out of socket, can you think of any risk to continuing to run the head with the holes like they are? My problem is, it seems difficult to find a replacement head that fits the same style bar without completely switching to a new style bar. Do you have an opinion? Re: Coupler gouging hitch ballIt does kind of look that way, however, it is a 2 5/16" ball in a 2 5/16" coupler.Re: Coupler gouging hitch balldidn't realize that imgur doesn't work for posting to these forums..had to rehost on photo bucket for the pictures to show up.Coupler gouging hitch ballI have been noticing over the years that my hitch ball is being gouged. I always assumed it was from contaminated grease, rocks being stuck in the coupler, or a series of small animals making homes in my coupler. I finally crawled on my back to inspect the inside of the coupler and clean all the grease out to get a good look, and to my surprise there is a significant amount of wear. Sharp metal burs that are undoubtedly the cause of my hitch ball being gouged. See pictures... My questions are: 1. Should this be happening? 2. Why is this happening? 3. How can I fix it? 4. Should I even be bothered by it? Thoughts?
