My TT is 1500 lbs lighter than his, and it uses a 2-5/16 ball. I have the Husky Centerline TS with 800-1000 bars. Easy to hitch and unhitch, connects my Jay Feather X213 to my F-150 quite nicely.Re: tonneau covers rhagfo wrote: We have a Truxsport roll up, and love it! Also have a below rail tool box in the front of the bed and when rolled bac have full access to it, only takes seconds to roll back. I have the roll up from Truxsport too, and I don't see it as any more difficult to use than my brother-in-law's tri-fold. It seems to be quite resistant to water penetration, even when using a wand to wash at a car wash. I've driven through all day rains with no leakage (not even a drop), but somehow dust still finds a way in. I have to roll it back now and then just to wash dust out the bed. In all I like it, and the price ($250) and weight (25#) were right.Re: First time camping in bear country in popup. Ralph Cramden wrote: susan-y wrote: Most of the "bear" places I camp do not allow soft sided rv's. Have you checked to make sure you can camp there? I'm with the bacon on your neighbor trick ;) Sorry, but have to call you out on that statement. Please list them. Everytime somebody makes a claim to that effect in an online forum, someone asks for the specific campgrounds and never once have I seen an answer. That is other than Fishing Bridge at Yellowstone which IMO has nothing to do with bears but more to do with the contracted operator wanting to keep the lowly pop ups, tents, and hybrids away from the in crowd. Bearphobia running rampant. My house is in bear country lol. I have found a few bear piles in the back yard over the years. I have never had one raid the garbage nor lick the gas grill though. Also one has never ripped our back door off and raided the fridge. I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do hereby leaveth my bear rifle to whatever finds it. It is a good rifle, and killt the bear that killt me. Anyway, I am dead. Yours truly, Hatchet Jack. It used to be true in most of Yellowstone, and parts of Glacier from time to time. When my wife and I went to Yellowstone back in the mid 90's, there were soft side restrictions in place on some of the campgrounds. To say that bears don't tear up cabins and cars when the opportunity presents itself is simply denial. It happens every year in the Rockies, from Canada to New Mexico, and not only when the owner has done something to tempt the bear. My brother-in-law owns a four-plex rental apartment building in the Colorado mountains, and the trash dumpster is raided 2 or 3 times a year by bears, even though it's supposedly "bear-proof".Re: Right Truck for the job? JulieMB wrote: I have a micro Minnie 22 foot trailer. I just got back from driving in mountainous area with wind, white knuckle driving. I just feel like the truck I was using just wasn't doing it's job.. of course we were told this truck would work. Perhaps we are a little naïve to trust. Perhaps it's me being to cautious. Any suggestions! Truck is a GMC Canyon V6 (2017) tow capability 7,000 Micro Minnie GVWR 7,000 dry weight 3,700 2 axles. Thanks. Any full size half ton with a tow package should handle your TT. My Jayco is heavier than yours dry, but has a much lower cargo capacity and tops out at 5500 lbs. My F-150 handles the load easily, and I wouldn't have any problem with your trailer either. Set it up right with a good WDH and you should be good with a 150/1500, or go 250/2500 if that's what makes you feel more comfortable. I've been towing my 24' TT in moderate to strong winds every time we've had it out this year. While it's more fun when the wind doesn't blow, we don't get much choice out here on the prairie - towing in wind is a fact of life. Your Canyon just isn't big enough to dampen the bucking caused by the wind knocking your TT around.Re: First time camping in bear country in popup. TrueBlueKC wrote: We're heading to RMNP in 2 weeks and staying at East Portal campground in a popup for 3 nights.(Then down to Dillon lake for 2 nights then down to lake Pueblo for a night) I have a couple questions concerning bears. I know not to cook or eat in the pup and keep a clean site and store food locked in the TV or a bear box. What about using the fridge in the pup? We usually use a porta-potti in a shower tent and I am thinking that may not be a good idea due to the scent of the chemicals. Should we skip the outhouse? I've been living and hiking and camping in Colorado since 1973, and this year I saw a bear for the first time here (I'd seen them in Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, and Canada before). I was up a back road (not quite a Jeep trail), and as I was driving back down I saw a black bear running through a clearing in the woods. He was in sight for all of 5 seconds. In my opinion, bears are the last thing you need to worry about. Moose are more likely to be around than bears, and they can be cranky. Keep a clean campsite and you should have no problems.Re: Very sad at number of useless posts Trackrig wrote: Yes, it can post pictures from my hard drives, that's where all of my posted pictures come from and that's the only way I've ever done it. Bill You can upload them somewhere online to link to, but you can't link to a photo on your hard drive. If the forum doesn't allow attachments, then you have to find another place to host your photos for you. I use a paid subscription service with Smugmug. I dropped Photobucket and Flickr years ago.Re: Crazy drivingWife and I stopped in at the local Sonic drive-in this morning, and while we were waiting for our meal, a guy came in with a medium size 5th wheel towing a boat behind the trailer - the whole rig had to be 70-80 feet. When he pulled out, he first took out the trash can, then hit something that had electrical wires attached (I couldn't tell what it was before he hit it). He just drove on, like he was completely oblivious of the damage he had just caused. He simply cut the corners too closely. The only hope is that he knocked a hole in his boat so that the karma will get him in the end.Re: Do I need a WD Hitch shades9323 wrote: So if I go with a WDH, do I go with 800lb bars? Equalizer, Husky, or Reese versions? My trailer is about the same size as yours, and I use the Husky Centerline TS with 600-800 bars, currently $368 at Amazon. I tow in wind most of the time and while I still know that there's a trailer back there, it keeps everything pretty much one piece.Re: Crazy drivingI set the cruise at 65 unless the speed limit is lower. If I have to pass on a 2 lane road, I will hit as high as 80 while passing, then drop back. On the freeway, I will still accelerate to 70-75 just to get around and back in the right lane as quickly as possible to keep from blocking faster traffic. When I can justify new tires for the TT (only 8 months old, about 3000 miles so far), I may drive faster. It certainly isn't any problem to go faster, and my rig does just fine.Re: Cassette tapes!I first recorded from vinyl to cassette back in the 80's, then transferred everything from cassette to CD at least 15 years ago, probably started the project longer ago than that. Then most recently put all of those on computer and thumb drives. Everything I have now is stored and backed up digitally. Both of our vehicles have USB ports for playing straight off the thumb drive. Also have Sirius/XM in both vehicles. Cassettes do wear out, and start sticking. I had it happen more than once. Even CD's get scratched pretty easily. Having multiple backups digitally is by far the best insurance that your hard to find pieces will always be there when you want them.
