All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Hallmark vs NorthstarI have owned two NorthStar 850SC campers and have found them to be great value. As of last fall I put over 225K miles on them with no problems (other than my fault screw ups!)Rex at NorthStar treated me very well when I showed up at the factory for repairs. Especially when I arrived about 4:00PM on a Friday with a caved in back end - don't ask! He looked at it, said they could fix it and could I be there at 6:00AM Saturday morning. I spent the night in the factory lot and by 1:00PM Saturday I was on my way with a fixed camper. No other outfit that I have dealt with would be that accommodating! I can't say enough good about the company or their product.Re: Tripping ol man winterAnother super quality report from the Master. It is amazing how just a few inches of snow can add so much to the photographs. Great job!Re: Quiet Back Roads and a Truck CamperBack roads are the ONLY way to travel for me. I love the slower pace and ability to see many places away from the major highways. I am fortunate in that I am retired and do have the time. Interstates are fine though for folks with a set schedule but not for my taste. To each his own however. JoeChoOhki, I believe we met at Mount Rushmore on your trip in 2012.Re: Spare tire accessI have driven over 175K with a spare tire mounted on the front of the truck with absolutely no problems. This has been at altitudes from below sea level (Salton Sea) to 12,000 feet in Montana and at temperatures from zero to 100*F. Putting the spare in front was one of the smartest moves I have made. Easy to remove and use rather than go through contortions to take the factory spare down from underneath.Re: Whazoo's Trip of a different colorThanks for another great report! I just found it this evening ans spent more than ample time to read and reread the report. It is always enjoyable to visit places we enjoyed as youngsters however sometimes it does led to extreme disappointment! Did you happen to stop at Manzanar on your way down 395? If not you ought to make a visit on one of your trips south.Re: "Rocking " even though a pop-up?I have a NorthStar 850SC with a Dodge 3500 at present but had a Dodge 2500 for 8 years. The first camper and the 2500 had no trouble that I noticed as far as rocking and the 3500 has shown no problems either. Between the two combinations I have driven over 175K over ALL types of roads including National Forest roads, up to Prudhoe Bay (2X) and many other "back" roads. GrantRe: Finding Nemo, Going CoastalAnother fantastic Whazoo trip report. Just the thing for a cool rainy night. No words can describe your reports Dave. Thanks for taking the time to produce them. GrantRe: NorthStar pop-ups 2 questionsJoeandJulie, Currently I am traveling with my second NorthStar 850. The new one has more headroom in the cabover than the first one and I have never felt claustrophobic. So far my "new" one has gone over 60K with no problems at all. Rex at NorthStar is great to work with and all the crew is fantastic in my opinion. I have had work done at the factory several times on a somewhat emergency basis (my fault each time) and they have been very accommodating. The campers I have had have been great units and have given me MANY miles of service and many months of enjoyment traveling all over North America. So far no problems with delamination. Just my $.02 worth.Re: Travel advice - quick cross country tripLabMan1945 wrote: I would also recommend the Minuteman Missile Historic Site along I90 east of Wall SD. I may have to visit that site. I was at Malmstrom AFB courtesy of Uncle Sam from 1968 until 1972. We babysat a couple of hundred Minute Man Missiles and it would be fun to reminisce a bit. Bill In addition to the new visitor's center you can go on line and sign up for a tour of the underground command center as well as go to another location and see a missile in the silo. Excellent presentations and an interesting piece of history during the cold war. HIGHLY recommended. GrantRe: Travel advice - quick cross country tripI would also recommend the Minuteman Missile Historic Site along I90 east of Wall SD. Also i have camped on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands north of the Badlands on the Way to Wall. Look for places on the right as you head north. One place is near a cell tower. Quiet, secluded and on the edge of the Park. Have a great trip. Grant
