I've listed them in my order of importance. 1. Condition and history of the unit. Records, maintenance, repairs, and ownership history is most important when buying an older unit. 2. Get a floor plan you and the misses like. 3. Are you a tinkerer? I am always tinkering on my unit. 4. Allow adequate budgeting for insurance, repairs, and maintenance. My personal checklist included a fiberglass top, side radiator, and tag axle. I like American because my father owned 2 and I am familiar with them. Based on his experiences of owning 7 motor homes, the last three being diesel pushers, I wanted those listed features. We looked at Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Beaver, Prevost conversions, etc. Found a nice Wanderlodge that we have been pleased with. Good luck in your quest.Re: New 450 Lxi homePrivate message sent...Re: New 450 Lxi homeI would guess that the generator fuel ussge is not taken into account. I have no proof one way or another but to account for that separate metering devices would be needed to subtract the generator fuel usage.Re: New 450 Lxi homeConcerning fuel mileage, my 450 Lxi has an electronic fuel mileage display showing 6.1 MPG. How accurate that is I don't know. My father's 05 American Eagle displayed 6.5 MPG. I guesstimate the Eagle to weigh 6K to 8K pounds less than the 450. The Eagle had a red box Cummins rated at 500 HP where as the Lxi has a 525 HP C13 Cat.Re: Time to hang up the keys...(consignment ?)To find out comparable pricing check RV Trader. That will help you price your unit to sell. Do you know someone personally that is a friend that would handle the transaction for a small fee? Perhaps they could post on RV Trader and handle the transaction for you? The coach that we just purchased was advertised on Ebay. You will get the most views there along with RV Trader. When my dad got out of his last coach we had a large dealer to sell the coach on a consignment. They were a dealer for the brand that he had (American Eagle). I'm certain that they pocketed a nice profit on the deal but that is what a dealer is going to do. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.Re: New 450 Lxi homeIt is a 2006 with 47,500 miles. The previous owner really did a nice job updating the coach. He had a records of maintenance and updates that was meticulous. Updates included a new front windshield, new front paint, new inverters, new stand alone air compressor, one new heat pump, new refrigerator, new alternators, etc. We felt it offered a good value including a transferrable warranty. We are thrilled.Re: New 450 Lxi home tropical36 wrote: Prof_Turby wrote: Well... Traveled to Charleston and picked up my new to us Bluebird Wanderlodge 450 Lxi... Had to stop and get diesel just a few miles out... Unfortnately the coach would not fire up... Was able to locate a local mechanic that got us running... Also had an issue with the tires that required a tire service call... With that out of the way smooth sailing for 240 miles... Coach runs great... Very stable, and the 525 Cat is strong... Will try to post a picture... Sounds nice... Hopefully the weight problem was resolved with the recall. https://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=670 Yes... Picked up the coach yesterday... Coach had about 1/8 tank of fuel showing so we purchased diesel 10 miles from the sellers home... Coach would not restart when refueled... The coach dumped the air and tilted to the left... The fuel pick up tube is in the right side of the fuel tank... Local mechanic got the coach cranked after using starting fluid... Issue 2: Low air in tires... When we got the coach we gauged the tires and they were low... Not flat but low... When we got to the filling station we planned on airing them up but when the coach tilted to the left and would not crank the left rear outside tire unseated from the rim... Called a tire service truck that got us going... Two things to remember... Keep the fuel full and tires aired up...Re: New 450 Lxi homeI did not give the specifics of the issues with the coach so let me explain. The coach was low on diesel. We drove it about 10 miles to a diesel station to fill up. The low fuel light was on. It was running fine. When stopped we turned it off. The air dumped and the coach tilted to the left. The fuel pick up is in the right side of the fuel tank. Filled her up and no dice. I will go into more detail in the breakdown thread. I was fortunate to find an excellent great mechanic that came out to us and got the coach going.
