Wow, lots to think about. Yes, I really want to stay with a 250. The truck will be my daily driver for errands and carpools. Still trying to swallow giving up the SUV. However, I am definitely looking at all the numbers. It's amazing what truck salesmen don't know. Having to get a bigger truck is on the negative side of choosing a 5th wheel over trailer. However, that 5th wheel sure offers more. Also, I don't plan on going bigger. This will be our 5th trailer. We have 2 big teenagers now. Thank you! This is really helping. I wondered about the pin weight "wet". Really hoping to get by with a 3/4. It says hitch weight is 1338 with a GVWR of 10195. So I should expect a pin weight of like 2,240??? That's a big difference. We plan to buy a new travel trailer that is 30'2" total length and about 6300 lbs dry. We also plan on upgrading our tow vehicle since we have been towing with an SUV. However, we recently found a 5th wheel floorplan that we really like. It has made us rethink our trailer since we already are buying a truck anyway. The total length of the 5th wheel is only 32'11". Would my total length be shorter than if we were to go travel trailer? I like to be small and tow ease is very important. So, my question is how different is it towing a 5th wheel? I believe it needs a larger turn radius? How often do you have gas stations or campsites that you can't get into? Anyone own a travel trailer at one time and a 5th wheel? My ideal situation would be a very small travel trailer but I want double bunks and some storage so...:) I am just really nervous about putting the extra money in a bigger truck and 5th wheel and not liking having to worry as we travel. Is anyone familiar with the Braxton Creek manufacturer? We are comparing a braxton creek lx with a jayco jay feather. We are familiar with Jayco, but have not seen a lot of Braxton Creeks. Well, we have been to a lot of dealers. We are still comparing fords and RAMs. So disappointed in the salesman. Most tell me that I don’t have to count my tongue weight. Ugh. I know I will need to put about 1500 lbs in the truck or on the hitch. So the first thing I am doing is opening the drivers side door and looking at the number on the sticker that says the max weight for all cargo and occupants. That’s the specific payload for that truck right? I find they range between 1300 and 1600. Thank you for all your input. I will probably be driving the truck more than my husband so I also need it to be more of a daily driver getting groceries and shuffling kids. I'm still having a little trouble giving up the extra seating in my Armada and do want some bells and whistles. Therefore gas mileage and comfort is pretty important. I also want to park in my garage. This will be our 6th camper, so I know I like smaller trailers and have already done the "learning shuffle" a lot. In my next life I want to be a floorplan designer. :) If anything, we will be doing the "couples camper" after this next one. I will look at Fords with more of an open mind. How is the rear end suspension? No one mentioned GMC. More importantly, I feel as if many people do not follow their payload capacity. Am I giving up the truck I want for not a strong enough reason? We currently tow our travel trailer with a Nissan Armada. Thinking of getting a little bigger trailer, we decided to get a truck. Decided on a Dodge RAM Limited today until I noticed the payload was only 1358#s. My Armada has more payload than that. Our trailer will probably be around 7000#s. With our teenagers, dog and tongue weight we will be right at payload capacity. Do we go with the RAM knowing that the extra tow capacity and longer wheel base will make stability and towing easier? Both my brother in laws tow with a RAM and really like it. However they are probably over their payload capacity. Thanks! However, I have recently had two people saying how they definitely prefer how a class A drives than a Class C. Feeling comfortable on the road is very important. Hmm. We have owned 4 trailers. However, trading in a motorhome is a much bigger loss. Just trying to get it close to right the first time. Ha515Views0likes0Comments
