Took me about 5 hours total. To me, the ride is night and day. The roads here in NY are horrendous and I can't even feel the trailer go over the bumps. I only wish I would have done this sooner. Crazy how different the ride of the trailer is, in a good way!! JGRe: suburban as a tv for first tmeI towed my Keystone Bullet Premier with a 2007 Suburban 5.3. I did put airbags in the rear which helped. The 5.3 liter struggled. It towed but never felt comfortable. Two years ago I switched to 2011 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2. Night and day towing. Love it. Pretty close to weights for the travel trailers. So yes you will be able but it will struggle. Just my 2 cents.Re: Gm 5.3 vs 6.2I had a 2007 Suburban with the 5.3. Towed my 31 TT for 3 years. I now have a 2011 Yukon xl Denali 6.2. I can tell you the towing experience is night and day. 5 times better. The power is always there. I felt bad for my old Suburban. I travel from NY to Maine and Virginia, no problems. The auto level works awesome also. I did replace my rear shocks as they were original with 65 K miles on them. Just my opinion.Re: GM 6.2 LiterI have a 2011 Yukon xl Denali with 6.2 and run reg 87 when driving normal, and Premium when I tow. Engine is a beast. I had a 5.3 Suburban and it was a slug compared to this SUV and milage is about 2-3 mpg less. Just my opinion.Re: Towing MirrorsI vote for the CIPA mirrors also. I had them on 2007 Suburban, and I got another set for my 2011 Yukon xl Denali. No vibration, work great and to me they blend more so someone might not notice them and steal them. Just saying.Re: Upgrade to Yukon xl Denali...super happyMy truck is a 2011 Yukon xl Denali. The Denali has the 6.2 liter but I believe it is still considered in the 1500 class. The Denali has autoride suspension which is great when not towing, and worked great when I was towing. Like I posted I was pleasantly surprised how the truck downshifted pretty aggressively when slowing down with the trailer.Upgrade to Yukon xl Denali...super happySo this season I upgraded from my 2007 Chevy Suburban 5.3 liter with tow package to my 2011 Yukon xl Denali 6.2 Liter. The difference in towing is night and day. I knew I was close with power and the weight as my trailer comes in at 7455 lbs loaded for camping. The suburban was struggling to say the least and I had it for three years from Virginia to Maine. If anyone is looking at the Yukon xl Denali, I would recommend it for the amount of people it can hold and I was not prepared how strong the 6.2 Liter is. Night and day towing. The transmission even down shifts when in tow/haul mode to help slow the trailer, something the Suburban never did. We just returned from a 1100 mile trip from Virginia and Gettysburg and only averaged 9.2 mpg but I didn't buy it for mileage. The auto ride suspension is great, no airbags needed which I did have to get rid of the squat in the Suburban. I asked a few members on here before I actually towed with it to get an idea how it would be but no replies. Even the comfort of driving was awesome. Just my opinion. Happy camping everyone. PS I cant have a pickup due to the custom security work that I do driving certain clients. Had to keep SUV for both. 2011 Bullet Premier 31bhpr, Equalizer hitch.Re: Flipjack - Any experience with them?I have had one for the last 3 years. I love it. I would not say it's shakey, and I have been to several sites that I had to use it in the kneeling position . Basically it folds to 90 degrees and sits like that not extended. I would definitely buy another one. One recommendation to the company would be to powder coat it instead of painting it.Re: 1000 Islands, NYIf it is the same as Association Island that's where I went in 2012. We went with our son who was 6 and daughter who was 3. We had a great time. There was not much to do there at the resort but we did some day trips and went up by the border. Small pool, but if you boat or kayak its a great place. VERY buggy. We were there and a quick storm came in with crazy winds. There were about three MILIION big flies hiding on the alee side of our camper under the awning. It was not a KOA when we went but very friendly people. I would go again but very buggy.Re: Leveling AirbagsI made a set of these in 2007 when I first started camping with my Hybrid StarCraft. They do work very well. I have not had to do anything to them since I made them and got the idea off this forum. The hose is heavy duty hydraulic hose. I cant remember where it was shipped but I ordered it online and if I remember correctly it was about 45 bucks. I will try and find where I bought the hose. Just used them at Hershey this year for my 31 BPHR and they don't bounce anymore than being on the ground.
