We made some trips through Oklahoma on 40, but other times we had to take 20 to 10 through Texas. The weather forecast made the decision for us. As far as mountain driving, 40 has some, no doubt. Not much on 10, save for a short stretch west of El Paso. You could handle 40.Re: WFCO WF-8955 amps in absorption modeHere I found it. Posted By: Snowman9000 on 11/24/14 01:52pm Oh, "since my WFCO is 55 amps", turns out to mean nothing in real life. I hooked my WFCO 55 direct with 2' cables to my half-discharged batteries as a test. It did 43 amps for about 3 seconds, was in the 20's in under a minute, and upper teens within a handful of minutes. The WFCO can only supply 55A at volts in the low 13s. So it will supply it for 12v operation, but not for battery charging. The output falls drastically at battery charging voltages. There is an output curve graph in the owners manual.Re: WFCO WF-8955 amps in absorption modeA few years ago I did a test using super short cables, and posted it here. I’ll see if I can find it. My recollection is that the charger was still lousy.Re: UP with hookupsWoodland Park CG on Lake Superior in Grand Marais has W/E and dump station. It’s adjacent to town. Easy walk to the Lake Superior Brewing Company pub and restaurant. Good pizza!Re: Moving from 5th Wheel to Sprinter based Class C tbr2015 wrote: We are looking into "downsizing" from our 31 foot 5th wheel / 2500HD diesel set up to a Sprinter based class "C" with a flat towed vehicle. Are there any out there that have made this transition? Wondering about your experience. It is a lot to think about (licensing, insurance, swapping truck for a towed vehicle, towbar/braking solutions, etc.). It sounds like weight will be a bigger factor that current set up because of the limited cargo carrying capacity of these motorhomes? We did this, to a 25’ gas C. The fiver is better when you’re camped. The C is better when you’re on the road or moving a lot. Honestly I see that as the biggest decision point.Re: Flow-Rite battery watering systemI have decided some of the base gaskets are crapped out, causing the leaks. I called the company and they advised that since my caps were made in 2016, they were probably switched from the previous batteries to the new ones. He said they don't recommend doing that, because the failing batteries can mess up the caps. So the best practice is to buy a new system. Since I can easily reach all the batteries to water them, I don't care too much about the system. So I ordered Water Miser caps to replace it.Re: Flow-Rite battery watering systemThey are 8 volts.Flow-Rite battery watering systemJust bought a 2014 golf cart that came with almost new batteries and Flow-Rite watering system. Since I didn't know the state of charge I went ahead and charged it. The battery tops looked squeaky clean before charging, but during charging I got a lot of fumes, and some electrolyte ended up on the tops of the batteries. From several caps, maybe all 6 batteries. I checked the level after charging and they were not close to over filled. Looked to be less than 1/4 inch over the plates. So how does this system vent? Somewhere on the caps, I have to assume. I looked at their site but didn't see anything on this. The tubes all look like new, the whole system does. But I don't want to have to contend with this mess after every charge. As to the charge, it was definitely vigorous. I measured voltages. Suffice it to say it was doing absorption at the equivalent of 14.8v per 12v, at over 80 degrees F. They were definitely bubbling. (Club Car 48v using their PowerDrive3 charger.)Re: Onan 4000 generator cranks but won't startAgree with the previous post. The two I’ve owned were bad cold starters. The choke seems to hang up. You can turn the choke closed using the linkage connector on top of the carb while cranking.Re: Is this a 10 speed Ford?Final update, I think it had a small exhaust leak on one side that would have accounted for the sounds I was hearing.
