Side radiator sucks air in the side and out the bottom creating a dust cloud. When the engine is cool the fan isn't running fast enough to create the cloud so I leave a CG before it warms up to that point. On the way in is another story. The fan is hydraulic and controlled by a wax valve that provides continuously variable fan speed depending on the water temp. So is affect of wind on that long overhang-- think of it as the "tail" on a wind vane. Cross winds are really dangerous on many of the older gas chassis MHs. I've seen many of them going down the road crossed up so bad that they are overhanging the adjacent lane. In our DP in the same wind it's unusual to fight the wind and many times the only way to tell if there is a cross wind is the steering wheel position or stuff blowing across the road.Re: Wheelbase and lengthBack in the late 90s there was great controversy over the length to wheelbase ratio. Ratios over 50% and preferably over 55% were considered safe. The wheelbase must be over 50% of the total length of the unit. Mfgrs started lengthening the wheelbase on most models to get over that magic figure. Another issue was the weight distribution front to rear. Before the controversy started the generators and fuel tanks on most Diesel pushers were mid chassis or further to the rear. On my 2004 HR Imperial the fuel tank 120gal, propane tank and the water tank, 100 gal is just behind the front axle. The generator is in front of the axle.Re: Should a Cummins ISL recall campaign scare me from buying? dons2346 wrote: There hasn't been any postings about wrist pin failure on the boards I read. You know if there was a failure, it would be posted on every rv board there is. It would not bother me to but that coach Look here. It's a sticky. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f123/Re: washing the motorhomeBlue Beacon is good but they've never washed the roof, said they don't do roofs. Perhaps it's local to where I get mine done in Joplin Mo. My roof was looking pretty ratty with black mold and stains forming so I paid a guy $50 and got a gallon of Zep mold and mildew cleaner. Gleaming white now!! RonRe: RV antennaI got one of the first King antennas to replace the bat wings (2) that had been folded in the wind while stowed and on the road. It worked better than the batwing until last year. the coax was rotted, the connectors were shot and the case is showing sign of sun damage so I replaced the bad cable and connectors with a fair improvement. if I decide to replace it I'll get another one. OBTW there is a compass app for your smart phone that is good for telling you which way to aim.Re: Violent tire blow out messed up my rig rgatijnet1 wrote: Tires sitting on a shelf should not deteriorate too bad, UNLESS they were stored in an area subject to a lot of ozone from electric motors or from the atmosphere. Some areas of the country have higher ozone levels than others. I lived in So Cal where there is a high ozone content. 4 yr old Michelin's on my 3/4 ton PU looked worse than those Samson's! Michelin wouldn't even return my calls or e-mails.Re: Aqua Hot frequent pump failure older_fossil wrote: It sounds like your Aqua-Hot is of the age that it probably had the square GRI pumps that proved to be very unreliable. Lots of discussion about this issue on the Tiffin Owners Forum. We had all four of our original pumps die over the course of about 2 years. Some out of warranty owners have gotten a reduced price for the upgrade kits to the newest pumps. Not just unreliable but really expensive too. Vehicle systems has these pumps as proprietary items and GRI won't give you any help with them. Very frustrating!!Re: Goodyear Tire Deaths for RVsI have been proactive in learning about the tire issues since we first go into RVing. Believe me when I say that the general public is oblivious to the issues with old tires. I've had family members and friends who have had problems with trailer tires that were over 10 yrs old and were not aware of the age dates etc. A friend was bragging about the great deal he got on tires for his car. I checked them and found they were 5 yrs old! He went back to the dealer ant was told that the "clock" didn't start until they were sold and in use. The industry needs to begin a customer awareness program to insure that everyone who is using their products knows about the fact that tires deteriorate and what rate that occurs at. OBTW while at a Rally in Oregon years ago the GY rep their told me the G670s on my MoHo were good for 10 yrs. One of them just blew out in Tulare Ca last month at age 7. No damage, just inconvenience.Re: Roadside ServiceI've had Coach net for 17 yrs and am satisfied with their service. While boondocking in BLM land at Quartzsite they've gone off road twice to take rocks from between dual wheels. The only snag was when they had to send a third tow out that finally had a "stinger" long enough to get under my front axle. Coach was under warranty and Monaco sent them but it was dispatched by Coach Net. AAA on the other hand seems to be having issues with their contractors. Twice now we've had to wait a long time to get a tow for our car. The driver told me that the aren't paying enough for travel and there is more lucrative business closer to them.
