Coils nice and clean, makes way more ice than the two of us could ever use and uses almost 0 power. Just have 4 batteries and 2kw inverter but works faultlessly.Re: DEF diesel enginesCat tried to save money by claiming that their ACERT technology cleaned up the exhaust so they didn't need after engine cleanup. In order to pass EPA mandated testing they cut back on power and fuel consumption. This worked on the dyno but not in the truck. By the time DEF was used by Cummins and Detroit in 2010, emissions were mandated in off road machinery. Cat was fined millions of dollars for falsifying their truck engine tests so they stopped production of on-road engines. Cat then sold their truck engine manufacturing to Navistar who produced Cat C-13, C=15 engines under their own name for several years until the EPA forced them to stop. Cat still makes off road equipment engines that meet EPA regulations but I don't know how they do it. Incidentally, DEF is so good at cleaning up diesel exhaust it allowed engine manufacturers to raise the horsepower by adding fuel and letting the DEF clean it up.Re: Windows 10 - Anniversary Edition?I have an HP touch screen and the windows updates are a nightmare. I finally turned off the automatic updates from windows 10! I was tired of them forcing their updates especially on functionality that I never used. They even made turning off the updates tricky! You have to set your internet connection to "metered" to fake them out! Argh! :S This last update caused major issues and I had to redo the computer. Since my personal files are not stored on the hard drive it was not hard to reload windows and my other programs. The windows anniversary edition caused hardware problems though. My problem now is I lost my touch screen capabilities. I had it with the prior edition of windows 10 but now it is gone! Can't find touch screen anywhere in the device manager! Any advise on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.Re: Jake Brake / Pac brake questionThe engine brake is a jacobs engineering brake that is mounted over the valves on diesel engine that modifies the timing of exhaust valves opening and closing. The exhaust brake is a quarter turn valve mounted on the exhaust outlet of the turbocharger and the closing of that valve stops the exhaust causing a high pressure in the engine. There is also a retarder done with the Allison transmission. I don't know how it works having never owned one, though it is said they work very good. Just very expensive.Re: Tire blowout video on I 26This happened to me a couple of times driving truck back before steel belted tubeless radials became standard. It happened to the left front both times same as the RV. Also didn't have power steering on the old trucks. Contrary to opinion you can step on the brakes to slow down just not so much that you lose control. You can also steer as the RV driver steered the RV. It just takes some muscle. If you put your mind to it you can control the RV in a blowout situation as required.Re: PA TurnpikeI would definitely get off at exit 226 Carlisle and save money. Easy drive up I-81 to US 322 into Hershey. Have done this many, many times driving 22 wheeler. Have a safe trip.Re: State weigh stations.Don't go in there! You don't want to give the DOT officers any opportunity to check you out. They are going to find some reason to put you out of service until the problem is fixed. The readouts are all computerized now and can't be read from outside. Go to a truckstop and weigh on a CAT scale. Costs $10.00 and is certified weight. Easy to do and no cops to give you a hard time.Re: brake controller wireing on DPOn our '05 HR Endeavor the wires for the controller were under the dash up alongside the steering column. Even though the friendly folks at HR said there were no connections provided. Took 2 days to find them pulling at all unhooked wires under the dash. Only problem is the negative signal from the brake controller that requires a relay to change it to +12v. There is a brakelight signal under the dash but beware, when the exhaust brake comes on it send a signal to turn on the brake lights and energizes the brake wire going out to the trailer putting the brakes on full, Another reason for using a relay for your signal.Re: The signs must changeAs a retired trucker I would like to respond. I agree with the law to move over or slow down when emergency vehicles or breakdowns are on the side. However everyone complaining about the trucks moving over into the left lane at any gap should know the left lane is supposed to be only for passing. Truckers get disgusted when looking into your mirror, you see the left lane full of traffic as far as you can see. There is no way to move over even if you wanted too, and for a truck to slow down is OK but a truck is 8'6" wide and even slowing down makes the truck too close to the emergency on the side. Common courtesy would allow the truck to move over to give clearance for the emergency vehicles but everyone is in such a hurry they might have to slow down down by letting in a slow truck. Oh nooo... The other problem is that all us old guys who came up in the years when truckers were knights of the road are retiring. The kids who come into the industry now are part of the 'me' generation and are just as selfish as the rest of the driving public.Re: Dumb mistakesOur motorhome was home in the garage when I decided to grease the front kingpins and steering joints. In order to fit under it I raised the front with the leveling jacks. As the coach went up I heard a crunch, stopped raising and wondered what had hit. Suddenly realized that when installing a new DVD on the TV I had wound up the antenna to check TV sound outputs several days before. The antenna had hit a stiffener at the crown of the garage roof. No damage but sure felt stupid, no one was there but me and I haven't told the DW.
