No Arctic Fox close to us in the Midwest, plus they're heavy (which could be an advantage, but....) would have necessitated a much bigger truck.Re: What is the best NP camping experience? The view out our door from Watchman Campground in Zion National Park. By far the best campsite we've ever experienced. Having said that, book the MINUTE the sites are available for this site! Best Site Watchman Campground Zion National Park Runner Up -- Glacier National Park, Many Glacier Campground (disclaimer - have yet to camp at Two Medicine due to fires, so it could be in the running).Re: Places to Stay near San Antonio, TXWe enjoyed Travelers World RV Park in San Antonio because it's right on the bike path and the bus stop to go downtown is right across the street. We did both! Here's a blog post on our two days in San Antonio ... there's a link to Traveler's World RV Park. Two Days in San AntonioRe: Newbie looking for manufacturer recommendationsThe Toyota Tacoma V6 with tow package is listed at 6400 lbs towing capacity. So that restricts your trailer possibilities. The Lance 2155 mentioned above is 4800 +/- gross net weight (whatever that means!) so adding a thousand pounds or more is going to put you right at the max towing for that vehicle. We have a Lance 1685 (LOVE!!!) with dry weight of 3800 lbs that we used to tow with a Toyota 4 Runner - similar situation to yours with slightly smaller tow vehicle & trailer. We towed safely for over 10,000 miles, but felt the trailer behind us every mile. We upgraded to a Tundra and never know the trailer is back there. With the kids, you'll especially want to err on the side of safety. Be very careful with what trailer sales people say you can tow! They told us that we could safely tow 6000 lbs with our little 4 Runner when all the Toyota specs clearly said 5000.Re: New to YellowstoneHere's a blog post I wrote on Yellowstone in One Day -- actually we caught the last eruption of Old Faithful the night before and then started the next morning with Norris Basin - lots of photos to give you an idea of our loop. Yellowstone in One DayRe: Big enough tow vehicle??We too have a 2016 Toyota Tundra, our GVWR is 7100#. We tow a 21' 3500# net weight; probably 4500# gross Lance 1685. We wouldn't tow anything 28' -- at 21' we don't even know the trailer is behind us. But I remember the days when we towed with an undersized/right at the limit Toyota 4 Runner - it was white knuckle time more than we'd like to remember. We would get a bigger truck or a smaller trailer.Re: Lance has no drawings for older frames. Anybody saved some?Try posting this on the Lance Owners Forum/Truck Campers, lots of folks willing to help out if they can -- here's a link: Lance Truck Camper Chatter Good Luck!Re: Considerations for new RV purchase? We love our solar! Allows us to stay in National Park campgrounds that don't allow generators for a few days with no problem.Re: St. Louis, Mo to where it's warm in Feb.3rd for Rio Grande Valley... Big Bend National Park is interesting - 3 different ecosystems all in one national park - desert, river valley and mountains. On the way down stop at Davis Mountain State Park and go to a dark skies party at McDonald Observatory - check to see if you need tickets ahead of time, it's very popular. South Padre Island is nice at the "end of the road" and Los Fresnos (near Brownsville) has a nice little rodeo in February. Enjoy!Re: man do i need a bike rack, but i cant decide....We have an Arvika bike rack mounted on the front of our trailer - great bike rack, HOWEVER ... often bike paths are not adjacent (or close) to campgrounds. We needed to take the bikes off the front of the trailer to transport them elsewhere. At first we emptied the bed of the truck to each time, but that got old. So we ended up buying a hitch mount bike rack for the back of the truck for when the trailer was in the campground and we wanted to transport the bikes to a bike path. Just a consideration if you're thinking of a trailer mount bike rack. :)
