All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Onan Emerald III Genset ProblemsI don't believe the oil is over-filled, it was filled by the shop when they changed the oil and filter. I did check the oil level, itwas good! A few squirts of oil drops shot out when I turned it over without the plugs, but only from the side of the generator near the access door. I was thinking that cylinder had oil in it from the generator laying on its side to install?? The battery and connections are cleaned, voltage to battery over 12V. I turned it over with allen wrench, could tell when it was on compression stroke as it became hard to turn, or could be exhaust stroke if exhaust was plugged (according to another post). OF course without plugs, turns over quickly. Thank You for responses!!Onan Emerald III Genset ProblemsGreetings, This is in reference to my Onan Emerald III Model - 6.5NHEFA26101E. History: This is in a 1990 Airex motorhome. Two years ago, it would only run with start button held in start position. I removed the generator from the coach, took it to a “certified” Onan shop in Reno, NV. They said it was fixed and a tune-up was completed, about $ 400. I re-installed the generator. It would not start and only “clicked” noise from the solenoid. Tried with MH running, just a slightly louder “click”. Replaced the starter and solenoid, oil is full. Ensured batteries were good. Checked battery voltage—at 12.92 , Checked voltage at solenoid at 12.60, Checked voltage at starter at 12.38. Still just “clicks”. I turned over the generator with an allen wrench. It is hard to turn on compression stroke. I removed the spark plugs—turned over easy, blew a little oil out while cranking. Note: I disconnected the starter, clipped on my meter, and tried the start button. It still just “clicked” but sounded a bit different from when starter was connected. Reconnected the starter, hit the start button, it cranked great w/o the spark plugs. Question: Is there a compression release mechanism on this unit? Also, not sure if this had anything to do with this, but after I received it back from shop, I took off the covers and cleaned out the mouse houses, as the shop said they could of cleaned it, but would of charged a lot for this service. Was there anything that could have been affected to cause this? I did read a blocked exhaust could cause this, but not too confident this is the cause. Any ideas or suggestions on solving this problem? I do appreciate any insight! I would take it to a shop, but am retired and would like to save that cost. Thanks
