We upgraded trailers and wanted to protect the inverter and other expensive electrical devices. This May we were camping at a fairly new and very nice County Park and had the power shut off momentarily one morning while we were thinking about getting out of bed. I don't know if the PI saved anything, but it was nice knowing I didn't have to worry about it.Re: extension ladder to get to roof? How to protect roof edge?Just saw a tip in Trailer Life Magazine: Stick a glove on both top ends.Re: First-time RVer: new vs used? Our first trailer was a '73 Prowler 18'. We've been camping for over 30 years and wanted to get our older bodies off the ground. This trailer was only a few thousand dollars and we kept it for 10 years. When we bought our 2008 Summit 22RB, we knew it was exactly what we wanted. Our patience got us a 5 year old trailer that had been used 3 times-you could tell. Even the mattress still had the plastic on it. My advice, by your first one as cheap as possible and live with it until you know what you really want. Plus, if you make a mistake and break something, it won't hurt quite as bad!Re: Actual driving speedsIn my high school driving class, I had a police officer state that he never pulled anyone over going less than 8mph over the speed limit. That has always stuck with me. On the freeway, however, I tend to go with the flow of the faster moving vehicles.Re: Someone is trying to scam me - BEWARE!Here's a link to various ways the scam can work: Pay Pal ScamsRe: Thieves at campsite! My 2 sons often sleep in a tent in our site. One son doesn't sleep well since he got back from Iraq. I think he almost hopes someone will wake him up stealing something! I have a vision of him popping out of the tent ready to kick some butt and coming face-to-face with a bear! Guys in their 20's seem to feel invincible. Considering what he's been though, maybe he is.Re: Let it snow!I saw on the weather report yesterday that the reason we're on our 2nd (or 3rd?) week of warm sunny weather is because the jet stream is sending the cold wet weather up North before it jumps South. Sorry ya'll, I guess it's our fault out here in the NW!Re: Update: flap in the foam around the water heater? profdant139 wrote: UPDATE So, I am getting ready to slice into the foam -- I was all set to create a velcro hinge for my foam flap, to drill into the cabinets for vent holes, yada yada yada -- and I decide (for reasons of diplomacy and domestic tranquility) to check with DW. I drag her outside to the trailer to explain the whole thing. She nods and says (politely), "Good idea! But how is this so different from a hot water bottle? I could boil water on the stove, fill the bottle, and put it on my lap, under my lap blanket, while we are eating dinner or reading." (That's how cold it gets when we boondock -- we often use lap blankets and wear warm ski hats while we are inside.) I sputtered a little, disappointed that I was not going to get to do yet another "mod." But she had a point -- yes, it is a little more trouble to boil the water and fill the bottle. And it might waste a couple of quarts of water per night. But it means that the water heater will not have to cycle on and off, I don't have to cut the insulation, I don't have to drill any holes, and the heat is right where she wants it -- under the blanket -- rather than indirectly warming the interior of the trailer. Darn. If you are going to use "water heater" heat to warm with, why take the time to boil water? Just use the hot water out of the faucet. Of course, if you are boiling water for dinner, you have it available anyway.Re: RV Lock Deadbolt Cylinder RECALL. Bumpyroad wrote: my key is "Ilco" so I guess doesn't affect me? bumpy Ilco is a replacement key brand. If you lock looks like the one in the photo on the recall notice, they direct you to look at the key cylinder to check the key code. Also, if you have the problem of being able to pull the key out in the wrong position, they don't care what the key code is, they want to replace it.Re: Condensation In TT on Cold MorningsThank you everybody for your quick replies. They were all helpful! ktmrfs, I especially appreciated your tips-I'd had actually considered a dehumidifier as one option. We were camping at Silver Falls, near Salem and up in the Cascade foothills. It had been raining the entire week before we arrived and everything was still damp. When we camp we don't use the stove to cook and have yet to squeeze into the shower. We did have some towels drying in the bathroom though. All these tips give us lots of options. Thanks again!
