I'd tend to agree with the previous poster about better heat distribution and saving on cupboard space etc with the vents in the floor. And we have a Nash 25C waiting for us at a dealer in Mesa Arizona which we will be picking up just after Christmas ----and I never even thought a thing about the dirt etc from my kids falling down the vents! There will def be a no-shoe rule in the new camper! Mary KayRe: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer?A few pages back I had a list of all kinds of things I had wanted Northwood to omit in the manufacture of one of their trailers....Like I didn't want a microwave, so leave it out, didn't like the key rack, so they could leave it out, etc . They said "absolutely not!" And the reason is if they start deviating too much, they would lose money because they would be out of "factory production mode." So I'm guessing to have them custom make something for you ---would be out of the question. That is not to say that you couldn't do things yourself. Like in the 25C, would removing the bunks and the closet space at the very back give you enough space? I'm guessing probably not..... We are really sold on the four-season capabilities of their products and believe they are really well built.Re: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer?Hi all, Just came back to finally let you know I have made a decision to get the Nash 25C. I spoke with someone who actually rented a Lance not too long ago, who is also ordering the Nash 25C, and this really confirms my feelings as well. What's a little surprising though is how the dealers I am contacting are not responding! They know I'm serious and yes, I have only ordered the listed options and have not tried to eliminate any standard ones. One was supposed to send me the paperwork on Mon, and it's now Wed! ! Don't they want my money??? And thanks again to all of you for your thoughts and opinions. Mary KayRe: Any Hi Lo owners on here?Robsouth, That is a fair price, but I want to warn you about the possibility of rotten walls, which is what we had and have rebuilt one. You see the second picture on the left? if you enlarge it, look at the seam in the middle of the wall on the left. I think? it looks bumpy. Ours looked like that and after poking my finger through a bump, then peeling it back ---a couple hrs later we had a wall with black-looking mold inside. The weak link on these trailers (well, on all of 'em I guess!) is water leakage through the seam in the roof. Whoever we sell ours to, I have an idea of putting more siding under the already existing seam up there to really make a barrier so water does not get down inside. If you feel any soft spots on the walls, or see any stains, you can probably rest assured there's mold in them walls. Also the ad says you can tow it up or down. We don't even like to park ours without having some metal supports holding up the entire trailer. The only thing holding it up is some cables. If you have rotten walls, the place where the cables attach can come loose and this could pose a hazard. I would not drive with it up. Also, it's more aerodynamic with it down too.... Until dh welded up some really cool adjustable supports for ours, he just cut some two by fours and painted them to hold ours up just for safety's sake. Also, do you know anyone with asthma? We had a friend with asthma and she was in there for an hour and had an attack due to the mold. LOL, you could send someone with asthma in as a "canary" to test for mold. Good luck, Mary KayRe: If I Hired a Raw-Food Apprentice....Oh, wonderful suggestions! Yes, I plan on seeking someone from some raw-food sites, and did want to make this short term. Maybe two months max. I think you may be right about using our brand new camper----coming in a month later to find the dinette stained, or a burn on the counter etc.... As for paying them, well, it would have to be minimal since we'll be blowing our wad on the camper! But I thought of that too....Geez, they'd need gas money, etc. Brookside, yes, a raw diet sort of thing. There are MANY who are interested and I am very knowledgeable.... Nina70, yep, I agree. I planned on looking on my local raw food meetup group to start. Jaxie, Raw food classes can cost THOUSANDS! I've been to a couple of the less expensive ones and often, I'll end up teaching/sharing some info with the teacher and others. I think a six week class at Living Light in California is something like $10,000 and you have to pay to stay in a hotel. Oh, and Jaxie, our family stayed at a raw food bed and breakfast and the food cost us $125/day - just for dinner (2 kids and 2 adults) I'll go check out that site orfsotr mentioned too. I also know there's an apprentice program for organic farms too - maybe that's what your site is orfsotr. Prob is our farm is not organic but my garden is and most of the food I will be preparing will be too. I know someone who did that program who called their place a farm, but it wasn't a working farm---it just had a garden, so I think I could swing it. Thank you ever so much everyone! Keep 'em coming if you have more. Mary KayRe: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer?Hey Rhinowino, Can you tell me more about the "Build Sheets?" Are those sheets/specs from the dealer to the manufacturer? Like if I placed an order, then they send it to Northwood? Would I get a copy of one from Donald Cochran? I'd like to see one before I go sending him that letter. What sorts of options are you getting? Hope I'm not bombarding you with too many questions! Mary KayRe: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer?WoodGlue, I am sorry to be trying to get the last word in, but maybe you are not reading a couple posts ago? Formaldehyde does NOT have an odor in homes or trailers etc. I think that "new car smell" is not formaldehyde but other xenoestrogens and BAAAAAD stuff...... To repeat --a home or trailer is high if it has 50 - 80 ppb and the odor threshold for formaldehyde is 830 ppb. Which means you don't smell it until it reaches 830 ppb, which would be using it when embalming a body, dissecting a frog etc. LOL, I'm "letting this go" now....will not try to get the last word, no matter what you come back with! Want to quit beating the dead formaldehyde horse..... : ) Mary KayIf I Hired a Raw-Food Apprentice....Hi folks, We haven't even bought our new camper yet, so this is not an ad for an apprentice, but rather, I'm just trying to gather up some ideas from some of you who may be more experienced in these matters than I. Background: Dh is a fruit farmer and I want to set up a raw-food business to sell raw, healthy goodies at our farm. We already have a good established retail business here. I'm a foodie and am quite experienced with raw-healthful foods and need someone to help me prepare lots of things to sell. I was thinking of having someone for say, the summer so that we could make use of our new camper. They could live in it and maybe we'd give them room and board. They would be apprenticing to me because I would be teaching them many things about raw-food preparation. How many hours per week do you think would be fair? 40? They will get all meals and have our nice new camper to stay in on our 100-acre farm, complete with swimming pool.... Do you think they should get some spending money too? Should I write up some sort of contract? What if a wife wanted to be my apprentice, but the husband wanted to work at another job? This would probably only be for two or three months during the summer, which is when we are unable to travel due to being too busy so I'd be happy that we'd be putting our camper to good use. Would appreciate any other feedback/ideas you may have. Thanks, Mary KayRe: Average Fuel MileageDowntheroad said: Don't even worry about it. When we realized that towing a house size brick all over the country would take fuel and lots of it, we started having more relaxation and fun. This was by Downtheroad quite awhile ago...But it has me cracking up. Mary KayRe: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer? WoodGlue wrote: I think many undertakers might disagree with you! WoodGlue Sorry WoodGlue, but I don't get it! An undertaker is using what is considered to be high concentrations --just like when you put a frog in it to preserve it....So yeh, they'd smell it.... There were studies on undertakers too! The main thing is if their rooms were well ventilated they did not have as many cancers, and of course, if they did fewer etc.... But the point is, they were actually studied due to their high exposure to formaldehyde.... Mary Kay
