Long guns must be in a case designed to carry firearms, but not required to lock them, and must be unloaded during transportation. No magazines over 10 rounds, to possess is a felony. Once you are parked the firearms must not be accessible by anyone under the age of 16, but you can have them out and loaded. No SBR's, full auto or suppressors. CA does consider your RV your home and we do have a castle law with no duty to retreat. Now the real question is, what county are going to be in? The coastal counties can be very unfriendly towards firearms vs the central counties being, for the most part, rather libertarian towards them. Do not carry without a CCW issued by a county sheriff, and really, your not going to be able to get one. You can try contacting the DOJ but they are notorious for being unresponsive and unwilling to actually answer any questions when you do get ahold of them.Re: Death Valley over New Years.Time to pack up the Jeep and head over there, what we're the temps? Just beautiful photos, haven't been there since I was a kid.Re: When The Bridge Has A 10 Ton Limit.............In the County I live in, the power company sent a 50 ton crane with pole trailer over a bridge that was posted at 10 tons. This is a one lane wooden bridge built in the 1930's. The front tires of the crane fell through the deck, his front axle caught some stringers before completely falling through. So yeah, those postings mean something. The electric company got a rather large bill for the repairs.Re: Help with auxiliary fuel tank decision or replacement.I have a 60 gallon RDS tank with to box, it gives me more than 12 hours of drive time with the trailer. So plenty of time to find a campground, go do our touring, then find up before fueling and hooking up and moving on. I consider it a convenience that I can choose when to stop on my terms and not when forced to by necessity.Re: Trying to find a semi-cool dark place to watch the meteorsThe local astronomy club uses a campground at Eastman Lake in Madera County, California, on the west side of the Sierra's. I have gone up there myself and can tell you that i have seen the sky glow myself, no light pollution, darkness gets down to about magnitude 11 or so and with the current weather conditions things have been nice and clear.Re: Trailer balance and levelingThanks everyone, I wasn't planning on using a weight distribution hitch, not enough tongue weight, it only drops my rear bumper 2". The trailer is a 26' tandem axte. I will see if I can find a drop hitch, I need one for my Jeep trailer anyway.Trailer balance and levelingQuick question, My father in law bought a travel trailer a couple of weeks ago while visiting, he lives 300 miles away and over the Sierra's near Reno, I'm near Fresno, CA. My truck is set up for my 14,000 lbs. Toy hauler, his new to him trailer weighs 5,600 but my hitch is waaaay too high. I have a lower hitch but not enough, I have towed his trailer for about 15 miles and hardly knew it was behind me. My main concern is having his trailer riding nose high while I take it to him next weekend. I plan on filling the water tank for the trip to help prevent sway, but I don't think it will be enough. How crucial is for the trailer to be level?Re: Buying budget/used TV with high mileage... mrad wrote: memilanuk wrote: Grit dog wrote: For your budget and mechanical aptitude (assumed), I’d find the lowest mile, best kept V10 Ford or 6.0 Chevy gasser you can get. Noted. I don't disagree. I *could* work on them; I just have zero interest, and probably lack the tools anymore to do more than the very basics. I may have stumbled across a 'deal' on an '02 GMC 2500 with the 8.1l gas engine & Allison transmission. Mileage seems okay - 160k - high probability of proper maintenance, etc. Kinda thinking this might be a good bet, or at least worth looking into. Thoughts? This is coming from a guy who bought an v10 excursion with 4.30 gearing 7 years ago. I also figured 5-7,000 miles per year. I ended up putting more than the 5000 per year due to kids getting drivers licenses and needing a vehicle to run to twon with . We have put on roughly 70,000 miles and teh only maintenance I have had is a fuel pump and brakes. I hear nothing but good things about the combo you are looking at. You might want to make sure it has the 4.10 gearing if you think you may go with a tt over 10,000 lbs. My v10 pulls 10,500-11,000 quite well. could hold 50 mph on Colorados steepest inclines. I would think the 8.1 with 4.10 would do the same. You'll get 6.5-8.5 mpg towing, but with only 5,000 towing miles a year, it probably isn't worth the price jump to a diesel to get 10-11mpg. I had a 01 with the 8.1 and Allison 5 speed combo until 2 years ago, great tow vehicle, just don't expect great fuel mileage. Also if the previous owner has not replaced the ball joints then they will need it soon. Also the 8.1 engine is known as an oil eater, so stay on top of the oil, it's something to do with the intake manifold, there is a fix but not required. My current diesel gets 10 mpg with 10k plus behind it, my 8.1 got 8 on a very good day with a similar load. I ran the numbers and it got .5mpg at WOT at 115 mph, don't ask. Just know it's a great gas engine.Re: Ramp Door ReinforcementMy TH was built to haul a Jeep Cherokee. The rear door was built to the standard framing and ended up being tacoed ( not good) in the end the manufacturer had to build a new rear door with double the framing crossmembers inside and it now has 4 helper springs on the back and is still nearly impossible for a 1 man lift. Not sure it helps you but that is was it took in the case of my trailer. The floor framing is also much heavier than normal. If you have any questions on my experience please feel free to ask.
