All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: AC size and generator size - advice pleaseI do a lot of dry camping with my toyhauler and I love having two generators. It came with a Onan 4000 which will run everything, but 90% of the time I use a small 800 watt 2 cycle generator plugged into the shore power. The small generator lets us run everything except the AC, electric water heater, and the microwave for about 6 hours on one gallon of gas. Most of the time we are only using a small amount of electricity, such as lights, TV, laptops, refrigerator; and it does not make sense to be constantly running a bigger generator and wasting gas. The small generator really takes up little space, has probably paid for itself a couple times over in fuel savings, and I simple start it in the morning and let it run all day long. The only problem is who has to go out at night to turn it off when we go to sleep. I am working on getting my son to design a simple remote control switch we can mount of the small generator to turn it off from inside.Re: increase tire sizeThanks for all the help and suggestions. I ended up finding a set of 12 ply tires that give me about 1000 lbs more capacity per tire with only a 1 inch increase in outside diameter over the old ST tires. With a measured axle spacing of 33 1/2 inches and the new tires' OD of 30.7 inches, I will have about 2.5 inches between the tires. It also worked out well with the 4 new 12 ply tires costing only $430 with tax and shipping.Re: increase tire sizeI know that the tires can not move any closer together and will normally never touch, but what if something gets kicked up by the front tire? There is no room for the object to pass between. I would worry about a catastrophic failure of possible both tires. I own a machine shop so it will not be difficult to machine a new spring equalizer that is eight inches on centers instead of my current one which is six inches. That, in addition two a mod to the two outside attach points for the springs, will put me back at the current 3.5 inch clearance. While I can do all the design and machining, I can't help wondering what other people are doing, or if it is just my trailer who has this narrow 33.5 inch axle spacing.increase tire sizemy trailer has 33.5 inch axle spacing. I want to upgrade to heavier trailer tires but their OD is 32 inches which would leave only 1.5 inch clearance between the two tires. This seems to be too narrow to me. Is 33.5 standard spacing for trailer axles and what do people do to upgrade to heavy duty 14 ply trailer tires with 32 inch Od's?
