CLOSEDRe: Tires with KevlarNot with tires, but sails. I found out the hard way that all the strength in Kevlar fibers is in the warp - with the strands - and it takes nothing to break it across the grain. I would say that a Kevlar belt wound around the tire would be best, but if wound in the direction of rotation would not take a hit on the side. The local fleet champ was one of the first with a Kevlar mainsail. The sailmaker said that if you took good care of the sail and didn't let it flog, it should last 2 seasons. The end of the last race on the second season, the main came apart. There wasn't a big enough piece to wipe your butt.Re: Kwikee Stairs failure rateMine are original to the 24 year old coach. Do you lube up the joints on a regular basis? I use motorcycle chain lube on the steps and the battery tray slides. One more thought. My coach has a high voltage cutout on the step motor. It would kick in every once in a while. I solved this by leaving an interior light on and flipping on the battery switch pulled the volts down far enough to go under the trip point.Re: I expect a 10 cent price increase in diesel Yosemite Sam1 wrote: How will you rate that problem: Not doable at all or impossible? Will take time and huge investment? A must do regardless of cost? Having lived through several region wide blackouts in the northeast, I would rate it as unwise. Imagine a northeast blackout taking out the entire nation. The grid is split for a reason, not because some engineer forgot to install a cross-over.Re: I expect a 10 cent price increase in diesel Yosemite Sam1 wrote: But half seriously, Elon Musk proposed a single site 100x100 miles solar in an empty part of a state like Arizona and it will generate enough power for the entire nation. The problem with that plan is that the power couldn't be distributed to the entire nation. The power grid isn't that interconnected, plus resistance loses would reduce the power getting to the northeast where it's needed. Apparently we use all the fuel oil in the world to heat our houses increasing the diesel prices in tropical Montana.Re: roadside service providersJust to be clear, the travel assist and emergency relocate programs from FMCA are club benefits and the RSA is an additional cost program. So the actual cost of their RSA is $159 a year.Re: roadside service providersI haven't heard many horror stories about CoachNet. Supposedly, they all use the same providers.2019I guess we can start this now that Christmas is over... Post your best and worse memory of camping in 2019. Best: Prince Edward Island. Beautiful scenery, nice people, great seafood, excellent french fries. Worse: Driving home from PEI in a hurricane. We left early because we wanted to be off the bridge before they closed it, but we still hit about an hour of high winds and heavy rains in New Brunswick.Re: “Oh Oh, I’m not going to make it” stories that ended wellI've had the cruise control refuse to kick off a few times trying to stop for a light. Makes for an interesting stop. The scariest incident was a TomTom selected route through the Catskills to West Saugerties. This was before I knew about shortest route vs. fastest route and RV friendly GPS apps. The road is a 13% downgrade, lane-and-a-half gravel road in my 28 foot gasser. About half way down I was smelling brakes. Stopped and let things cool off, then just went down in 1st gear, stopping on the flats. I didn't know it at the time, but only my front brakes were working. All I could think was "Jeez, I hope there's not a 10 foot bridge at the bottom of this". Re: US post new Mexican travel warningsMaybe we should tell the Sun that there's a level 2 travel advisory for the UK as well.
