I think we will do your route on the way home. I think I will go with the eastern route on the way up.Re: Route other than IH 35 from Texas to Northeast Minnesota1971duster340, I use US 79 usually when I am headed East towards Arkansas. Thanks for sharing how you went up to Des Moines. I may cross over on 82 over to 69 and go up to Kansas City and Des Moines that way.Re: Route other than IH 35 from Texas to Northeast MinnesotaTraindriver1 thank you! That is exactly the info I was looking for on the route. The plan right now is to go up 281, but I was wondering how the roads were in Oklahoma and which ones to avoid. Years ago coming out of the Texas panhandle I went through Oklahoma the road was so rough I had to slow down to 30 mph. Yes, definitely plan to avoid the Ft Worth/Dallas area.Route other than IH 35 from Texas to Northeast MinnesotaI am looking for an alternative route from Central Texas to Grand Marais, Minnesota other than taking IH 35. I have thought about taking Hwy 281 up then cut across. Has anyone done this route? In addition, I have looked at taking Hwy 281 up to Oklahoma then cut over and take 69 and 65. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking at making the trip the first part of August.Re: Is there a difference between 3.73 locking rear axle & 4.30?Okay guys, my nephew suggested the F150 3.5 EcoBoost V6 axle ratio 3.55 GCWR 17,900 4x2 suppose to tow 12,700. Any thoughts on this? I am looking for the smoothest ride I can get without compromising the towing capacity.Re: Is there a difference between 3.73 locking rear axle & 4.30?You all have given me great information. Spoon059 you made a very good point. Xtech you brought up something that has been in the back of my mind. To get the 4.3 rear I would have to order the truck. I test drove the F250 today and it did feel sluggish compared to the Tundra, but the overall ride was about the same. I also noticed the steering in the F250 is a lot stiffer. I am told that was a 2017 change Ford made. Again, thank you all for your input!Re: Is there a difference between 3.73 locking rear axle & 4.30?Grit dog, thank you. My brother keeps telling I will be going backwards dropping to the 3.73, but my thought were along what you mentioned. Is there a difference between 3.73 locking rear axle & 4.30?I currently tow approximately 8500 lbs with a Tundra. The Tundra has 5.7L V8 381 hp/401 lb-ft with a 4.300 rear diff. Looking at purchasing a Ford F-250 gas 4X2 with a 3.73 rear locking axle. Will I get a better ride with the F250? The Tundra is rated to tow 10,000 lbs and I had to add air bags to the rear end. The Ford is rated to tow 12,000 lbs. Will the 3.73 rear locking axle be an issue? Would it be beneficial to upgrade to the F-250? I appreciate your thoughts and opinions.Re: New MexicoI agree with dsteinman (accurate on drive times...done them all) stay in Santa Fe and do day trips to the other locations. We prefer the KOA in Santa Fe it's a little outside of town, but easy. We (mom in her 70s too) like the convenience of the location. We use this as our stop on the way to Colorado and visiting relatives in Santa Fe.Re: TiresBased on the age of the tires replace all the tires. Cheaper than the damage that could be done to your camper from a blow out.
